I was just curious about what your thoughts are. Do you think its something new and different? Do you think it makes a difference? I thought this would be an interesting question.

I proposed to my soon to be husband ( 9-2-06) I proposed in our local Newspaper on Valentine's Day. I think it doesn't matter who proposes to who as long as you two love each other then who cares.

I am nearly 60 and have never known of a single marriage where the woman didn't INITIATE the idea. Only difference is the subtlety with which it's done. Nowadays, seems that girls are a lot more straight forward. Formerly, we did it more like "I think we've been going steady a long time. Is this relationship going anywhere? Or is it time for us to start seeing other people?" Either way, it's almost always the woman who does the "Sh*t or get off the pot" speech.

In a new age world, it seems cool and okay. But the tradional value system still rules the men's world for very good valid reasons.

I would say the woman can drop hints at him to see if he's receptive to marrying in the first place. If so, is she the one for him? If so, is he ready to marry her?

Why do men propose in the first place? Women are generally ready to marry. But not for men. They consider alot of things before they jump into wagon of love & marriage. No longer they will be single. Because men, by nature, prefer freedom & space to build up their autonomy (freedom from external authority), power & strength. But in a marriage, they've to be responsible & committed to their loved one. They want to ensure that everything is okay financially, emotionally etc. before they drop the question. Whatever is not okay, they'll work on it first before even thinking about proposing. Once they're ready, no one can stop them except the women they propose to.

Once the wait is long, the woman is driven to pop the question which may shock the man who's unprepared & even embarass him.

The danger is the man may elongate the waiting time for the woman they dearly love & lost her to another man who's financially & emotionally ready. If the man really love her & want to marry her, tell her before it's too late, tell her her how long the wait will be. If she has to wait, she'll wait. If she doesn't want to wait, it's not meant to be.

Here's my unique story!!!!

Asked my guy if he was in a good mood to go out to eat at a fancy restaurant (heh, a trick if ur guy likes to go out to eat).
We got there. Ordered food.....while waiting.....
I told him I forgot something in the van!
I came back with a gold pocketwatch with a buck & a doe deer in the front , all wrapped up in a nice wooden box... engraved with my words on the back...
He opened up the card first... just a normal love card *grin*,
Unwrapped his surprise....
he didn't realize until I asked him to look on the back...
Awww... I'll never forget the moment.!!!!
His face... his eyes... almost burst into tears!!!
And... said "I Love You so much, April!!"

Offically engaged!! p.s. that was last year Sept 8th and we're getting married on Sept 8th next year!!!!!!

Look in my 360 link.... under Engagement..........pictures show it all!!

It is a very special thing for me for eternity because I like to do unique things... being creative...

Sounds desperate! A woman should never have to ask. She is the prize and if he can't see that, she needs to move around to someone who will see that in her.
