Proper form is a must !!!! Then yes....
Proper Form for Pushup Lucian Mosoianu
Get on your knees, and place one hand on the floor. Straighten your back and let your arm hang naturally towards the ground. Wherever it hangs, place your hand there, keeping both sides of your palm firmly on the ground. This can be achieved by making sure your thumb is also touching the ground. Next, position your other arm in symmetry with the arm on the ground, so your upper body weight is evenly distributed through your shoulder/elbow/wrist joints. This is done to merely position your arms how you would naturally perform a pushup in real life (getting up from your bed after sleeping on your stomach for example); so you do not have to follow this step every time, just the first few times so you get the proper form down. From there, you can position your feet as far apart as needed. Try focusing on the balls of your feet, rather than the toes, and make sure to leave a slight bend in your elbows when you extend your arms (full extension locks the joint and since pressure is constantly applied, you do not want any chance for injury).
Big triceps eHow Friend
Get in a push-up position. Place hands shoulder wide apart. Upper arms close to chest. Perform each rep slowly, with 2 seconds up and 3 seconds down. Rest for 1 minute. Perform only 2 sets.
If you can do two sets for 25 reps as I've described, then you have very big and strong triceps.
The keys is slow and steady motion when performing push-ups.

Regular push-ups? No. Tricep push-ups? Yes. The difference is the arm position. In a regular push-up, your arms are perpendicular to your shoulders so that your chest and shoulders are taking the hit. In a tricep push-up, your arms are parallel to your shoulders and your elbows are tucked in 45 degree angles, close to your ribs. As a result, your triceps will take the hit. Asides for tricep push-ups, dips (both hanging and seated) and kick-backs are also great for building strong triceps.

(Do you want strong triceps or big triceps?)
Push ups will help your triceps...the closer you put your hands together the more your will target your triceps. If you want to build a lot of strength you may need more resistance/weight.
If you have a way of doing dips you should do those as well.

If you want to strengthen the triceps you need an exercise that isolates them. Hold a dumbell behind your head and extend your arm straight. This is the easiest way to do it without a machine. Do 12 repetitions of this move (12 reps). Repeat this exercise 3 times in one session (3 sets). Pushups work a lot of muscles, but focus mainly on the upper body conditioning: pecks, biceps, triceps. Plus it is good for the abs.
Exercises that work alot of muscle groups are good for burning calories and building stamina. You can't get muscular without doing resistance training(working with weights).

Push-ups work your chest muscles more than your triceps. You might want to try tricep kickbacks or tricep dips. . .
But if you keep your hands together, with your thumbs and index fingers forming a triangle, you'll work your triceps more while doing push-ups

Yes. Push-ups work both on the chest and triceps, just like the benchpress. Start out with three sets of 10, then move up to sets of 25, and keep increasing your sets as is possible. When you're doing 5 sets of 100, you're huge!

To focus more on your triceps keep your elbows up against your body and have your hands only shoulder length apart.
Try it, its a tough push-up to do unless you have strong triceps.

Yes, triceps, shoulders and chest. Enough to make you sore the next day but not enough to completely cripple you for a couple days. Do as many as you can in about 3 sets.
