A simple and elagant desk will do with shelving above it and a cute little "filing cabinet" next to it. White is a soft and clean color that will kind of camaflauge the study part into the bedroom.
Get a laptop if she has to have a computer so that she can close it instead of having a huge gaping screen to look at the rest of the time it's not in use.

To organize office supplies, use coordinating colored paper or fabric to cover books, containers and other odds and ends that will be cluttering up the desk and shelves. This will give it a really clean, soft and nice appearance, and it's fun too! She can help do this herself.
The chair for the desk can be a stool with a decorative padding on top so that it won't look so "officy-like" ;), or find a plain wood white chair and get a pad for the seat and dress it up a bit, or get a cover for it.

Get bedding to match the other fabric you'll be using, and drapes too. Mix and match patterns, colors, textures to play it up and to keep it from looking so busy get furniture that is a little bulkier and bigger and buy less little accessories and decor and try using pastel/pale colors, lace, whites, flowery prints, and the like.

To make sure she likes it, see what her favorite colors are and favorite bugs or animals or designs and use some of these.

Find creative ways to camaflauge all the office supplies so she won't feel like she's in an office, but in a cozy and pretty room with the stuff she needs too.
LIke I said, fabric is a really good way to go:)

Have fun!! I wish I was there helping! :)

My first suggestion is to ask your niece what she likes. Choose a theme that interests her. Same goes for colour & texture. You can decorate using things she loves, probably even with things she already has and then you will have an easy time of choosing a few new things.. maybe throw pillows or something else that reflects her taste, things to make her space one she truely loves.
Another thing to consider is having her participate in the search for style and the actual transformation.
Good luck

Maybe you can change her bed to be a high bed and put the study desk under the bed. Put in lots of shelves and adequate lighting. Use bright colors in pastel shades.Check out home improvement magazines. Good luck and have fun.

i think it'd be cool if you could find blackboard paint. it actually makes the wall like a chalkboard! it sounds really cool. blue is calming, but for the color, you should ask her opinion. and, obviously, you should get a desk. and organizing stuff. that helps.
