The truth is that it only "appears" through the media and a few bogus websites that people "think bad about" Scientology.
The fact is that Scientology since it's very beginnings has done nothing but help mankind and is a very popular religion because of this.

When you discover something that improves peoples lives and
relieves suffering and unhappiness and start to broadly promote
and communicate about it, you inevitably cut across the few "people" who have a vested interest in keeping everyone suppressed.
Whenever and wherever you advocate and actively increase
spiritual freedom for mankind you will run into these elements.
Happily they only represent about 2.5% of the population at any one time.
While they can, and do try to, manipulate public opinion via the media channels and the internet (a more recent weapon which fortunately is double edged) with lies and propaganda, their efforts over the past 50 or so years have actually had no real effect on Scientology.
We are still here, all over the world, doing good, getting stronger and more numerous by the minute!!
To quote the Founder of Scientology from his Journal dated
March 13th 1982 in an article called:
"The Future of Scientology", he discussed in detail the various attacks that had been launched against us and their sources and results.
He ended the article by say this:

" We are saving beings, not men.
And the evil die within their own generation.
We don't.
The enemy can't even plan for tomorrow.
We work in eternity."

Basically we are winning because we mean well. We do good.
We know how to help.
The enemy is losing and will lose because they mean bad. They do evil, and are incompetent.
They also tend to shrivel up and fade away when exposed by the light of truth.
A bit like when you pour salt on slugs.

Scientologists are just horribly insecure. If they weren't, they wouldn't have so many problems with people making fun of them. It's like how in middle school/high school how your parents and teachers always told you that if you didn't overreact to the bullies picking on you for being a nerd, they wouldn't pick on you so much.

Whenever anyone tries to talk about the serious side of scientology and uses a demeaning tone (South Park had an episode like that that apparently resulted in the VA for Chef leaving, though I don't know much of the specifics), the powerful lawyers of scientology immediately instigate a lawsuit. It just gives off an image of "We know we're wrong, but we don't want YOU to know too" And that's something people don't exactly tend to respect.

Other than that, it also opposes Psychiatry and the associated drugs which can be benefictial for a lot of individuals. For others, not so much, but, eh.

L. Ron Hubbard actually started Scientology by coming up with the most ludicrous set of ideas he could think of. He then made a bet with other sci fi authors that he could trick people into believing these ideas.

L. Ron Hubbard started Scientology for profit, and for his own amusement. He does not believe in Scientology.

Start with the fact that the "official" biography is a complete fabrication.

The consider that his source material was Aleister Crowley.

Then look at the way its adherents behave. Especially the actions of people in FLAG. [This is the section of Scientology that does the majority of the "enforcement work". And like enforcers for La Cosa Nostra, the legality of the method used is irrelevant.]

Then take a look at the "commandments" that one has to obey as a Scientologist.

Then look at the beliefs themselves.
Are they plausible?
Do they scale?

Then consider the time scale.
Is it even plausible that the universe is as old as they claim it is?

May Xenu strike all kith and kin dead.

Question 1- It was developed by a man who wrote science fiction novels.
Question 2- Nothing is bad about it if you like to believe that aliens created man. However some people believe that Hubbard (Scientology creator) just redefined his self help philosophy into a religon as a capitalistic move that prays on the....well, dumb.

People who oftentimes think bad about other people are people who have never been with them. They are just observers from the outside with their own belief and are being threathened that their belief could be tainted by the others somehow. There is nothing bad about scientology there are only people who try to separate science and god because to them is hard to accept that there is no difference between science and the ONE who is the source of all scientific explanations.

It's a science fiction book written by L.Ron Hubbard as a bet with Robert Heinlein. Both are sci-fi writers. Heinlein wrote a book called "Stranger in a Strange Land" and a few communes sprouted up with people trying to meditate their way into having supernatural powers like in the book. Hubbard made a bet with Heinlein the he could write a book that would gain enough followers to be called a true religion, so he wrote the book "Dianetics".

The Church of Scientology was started in 1954 by the science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. He ceated a "therepy" for mental health which was called Dianetics, which when used casued some people to "see their past lives". They belive that we are essentially in a matrix (like the movie) of our own creation and that we are actually all god-like beings who are billions of years old and forgotten who we are. Those who believe this have to pay large sums of money to even rent pews, go to religious ceremonies, and go to spiritual auditing sessions, in addition to tithing.

So it is essentially a group where you pay for induced hallucinations. You can get that from any street corner crack dealer.

Wear do I start???????????????

L Ron was a bad science fiction writer and based a religion on it.

It is so corny South Park just had to tell the truth about it to make it hilarious.

Most people with Down's syndrome wouldn't buy into it. Okay, Travolta and Cruise but I've taught people with Down's that had a better sense of humor.

its based on science fiction RH Hubbard is a wonderful writer but to base a religion on his books is just nuts. is there any mention of God , Jesus or even the Blessed Mother Mary? they keep every thing behind closed doors why? what are they hiding from us ? if Scientology is so wonderful why don't they throw open the doors and welcome the world in,like every other religion does?
