Pay attention and maintain control and you will be fine. There is nothing wrong with stopping at a yellow light. More times than other you should just expect the car in front of you to stop at it instead of going through it.

The yellow light is supposed to provide a transition time, so that people have time to stop for the red. If a light turns yellow, and you can not stop safely, you should go through it. What has happened is the red light camera intersections have caused people to be afraid to go through the yellow, so they slam on their brakes and make a panic stop. Even if you are not tailgating, someone slamming the brakes and stopping quickly in front of you will require you to react without delay. A split second failure to react will result in your hitting the car that did the panic stop.

I have seen several serious accidents caused by someone panic stopping at a yellow light, and being hit from the rear.

I agree that people stopping for a yellow light shouldn't cause an accident, but I will add there is a reason that accidents have gone up at intersections where red light cameras have been installed. The company that puts in the cameras gets a percentage of the ticket money and to increase revenue it is part of the contract they have with cities that the time that the yellow is on is cut in half. Sounds like collusion to me.

Apparently there is a huge increase in rear-end collisions at intersections where they have installed cameras to catch red light runners. People are actually stopping on yellow instead of flooring it, and it's catching the people behind them by surprise!

Well, since you're supposed to stop when the light turns yellow, people need to pay attention to what they are doing.

I wonder how many of those idiots that are doing the rear-ending are yakking on cell-phones...

Yellow = WARNING!!!! The light is changing to RED = STOP. You should slow down, pay attention and get ready to STOP. You should not just keep going, and you should not just floor it. If there are cars in front of you, EXPECT them to STOP. As far as the camera, if you are not breaking the traffic laws, then you should not have anything to worry about.

No. You are supposed to stop unless you are in the intersection . The reason people get rear ended is other people on cell phones.

They shouldn't be following too close. Cars don't have to go through a yellow light.

Good grief!! I think you mean, "WHY are there so ...getting REAR-ENDED because...not going THROUGH?" What a grammatical mess of a question!!

I think it's more like the guy behind the guy who's stopping, when he's suppose to, is not paying attention.
