Well, In my Professional Opinion, Raspy or windy voices after sing are symptoms of wrong vocal technique. To sing should be a wonderful experience and not a torture.

You are probably singing wrong, I would tell you to stop singing for a while and go to the doctor, just to be sure your vocal chords are in good conditions. Is better to go now before you lose your voice and the problem gets really big.

It is possible what you said, could be a serious inflamation on your vocal chords, Could be polips or nodules, that's why I am telling you stop singing and go to a speacialist.

If you don't have a voice teacher PLEASE find one. A responsible voice trainer will guide you to build a safety voice technique and will tell you the way you need to take care of your vocal chords.

If you have a voice teacher now, if you are attending voice lessons... I am sorry to say this but you are paying some one to kill your voice! RUN AWAY!

Many peole ignore how dangerous is to teach students wrong, many people say they are voice teahcers but they are literaly killing voices, because they don't have the knowledge about voice technique. The result is: voices completly destroyed and many people on Speech Therapy, trying to fix their vocal diseases. This could be prevented by find the right teacher for you.

For now,
1.try at least to not sing for a week,
2.take a daily vocal rest (at least 2 hours of not talking)
3.Drink Chamomile tea, (do not put sugar in it)

After a week, start vocalizing just a little bit, do lip trills and humings. If you don't feel well, you will defenetly need to go to the doctor.

Be aware my friend we cannot go to the Music store and buy a new pair of vocal chords. Unfortunately this is not possible.

Bad habits, wrong thecnique and bad use or abuse of your voice instrument could cause a serious vocal damage.

Check my blogs in my 360 page:
A. How to take care of the voice
B. How to find the right voice teacher

May be that will help you. I hope so

Good Luck

I would seriously doubt that you have caused any major damage to your vocal chords. If you had you would be in the ER in severe pain, not asking a question on Yahoo. LOL Anyway they are most likely sore from the long use you put them through. Singing is very hard on the voice and if you are not used to singing for long periods of time it will make you sore. If this is something you want to do on a frequent basis, you might consider voice lessons. A voice coach can teach you to sing without putting so much strain on your voice. Good luck!

You probably do not have hemorrhaged vocal chords, however there might be some vocal damage. It sounds like you are singing with tension in the throat. You have to be VERY careful especially if you are singing for extended periods of time (five hours is definitely in that category) to keep your throat so relaxed that you really cannot even feel your vocal folds at all. If you feel them or experiencing tingling, stinging, or soreness you DO HAVE TENSION IN THE THROAT. If you are not taking voice from a CLASSICALLY trained voice teacher that would be a good thing to invest in. They can teach healthy singing, and they won't cramp your style, usually. if you are not doing damage.
If you are worried about your vocal folds (chords) you can go to many ear, nose, and throat doctors and they can put a tiny camera down to your vocal folds to take a peek and check them out. :)

You might have. To help it, try some tea or honey, and if you can, rest your voice.
