Dude, the diamond rings are a status thing. The smaller the diamond the cheaper you look. My wife's diamond is over 2 1/2 carats. It is a single diamond and it is a princess cut , set in white gold. Stick with the single diamond, they look better. The cluster diamond are nothing more than little chips put in a setting. You will pay a little more, but most women are looking at other women's ring.

Is this is a proposal. Well, I am so flattered. You know what, my son and some of my friends used a Jewish diamond dealer in our town for their engagement rings. You tell the "diamond lady" the size of stone you want first. She'll get you several diamonds to choose from. Then your have her design a setting for the diamond you choose. She has some prototypes you can use or you can modify them to your liking. Same with the wedding band(s). So if you can find a jewelry designer, that's what I would suggest. Me, I have an emerald cut set in white gold. Very plain, but the prongs are high and catch on everything, so I would suggest examining the setting for sturdiness and durability.

Well, personally I prefer the square princess-cut diamond. I think it is classy looking and I love the clean lines. I definately prefer white gold or platinum over yellow gold.
As for the setting, a floating diamond solitaire engagement ring is a classic and beautiful way to go. Good Luck!
Whatever you choose, I am sure she will LOVE it!

I like my engagement ring. It is high set and circle cut with four prongs. The prongs are white gold/silver and the ring is gold. I like square cut diamonds too. I think it all depends on what size diamond you are getting because some diamond size don't look good in certain cuts. I think that bigger diamonds should be square cut.

My ring is a three stone, emerald cut diamonds in white gold. I just personally like the look of emerald cuts. It also has 6 (three on each side) channel set princess diamonds in the band.

Mine was an "oval" cut, not a cut you see very much, but I get so many compliments on it. It doesn't have the sharp points like the marquis cut has. I wouldn't want that.....too much hair gets stuck in those points, and they can be dangerous weapons, LOL! The ring itself is platinum, and there are smaller diamonds on either side of it. There was also a matching wedding band which my fiancee got with it.

I love it, but your fiancee should have a lot of input since she will be the one wearing it mostly....

I'd find out from a close friend of hers to see if she's got any specific preferences. Or you could have her pick it out herself. Some girls would be happy with anything but personally speaking I'd like to be the one to pick my ring out especially if I'm going to be wearing it for all those years. I'd want to be sure it looks nice and fits my hand. If I were you I would take her ring shopping and then later go back and buy the ring (so you can surprise her) she was most interested in.

My opinion is that you should get her almost anything but a diamond that was gotten by some poor african kid, that had to slave in a diamond mine, under the worst mining conditions in the world.
Besides a good ruby is actually worth more,or emeralds and saphires even.

most gals now days like white gold. round cut diamonds have the most facets. seems like each gal likes a different cut. see what other rings she has and what shape the stones are. then you will know her taste. Also, if you can sneak one of her rings when you go to the jewelry store you will have her correct size tool
