It's usually the antigen in the cats saliva that people are allergic to, not the hair or dander itself. Since most cats lick themselves this could be a problem. Sometimes giving the cat frequent baths helps, but this isn't always easy.

Domestic short hairs will do nicely as long as they are bathed about once a month. It's the antigen in the saliva that causes allergies not the hair/fur on the kitties. I am allergic and by doing the above, I am able to have my two kitties. To those of you that called the hairless kitties ugly... shame on you! All animals are beautiful and there is no such thing as an ugly cat.

Lol arent you the girl who wants a cat and her daddy is allergic to them? Well bad news... all cats give allergies, but some good news the sphynx, Devon Rex, and Cornish Rex tend to be lower on that. They do still give allergies to some people!!! and their prices are $1000-$2000 so good luck... still I shouldnt get one just in case your dad is overely sensitive to cat allergies.

I've heard that schnauzers, Westies, and poodles are hypo-allergenic dogs.Or Try the Vivarium in Berkeley for a good look at fur-free pets.

There is a hairless cat. Your local animal shelter will probably be able to help you a lot with this question.
