Sex can actually induce pregnancy. That's what happened with my friend and his wife. He came home from Japan (he's in the Marines) where he'd been for the whole last 8 months of her pregnancy, they had sex that night, and like, an hour later, her water broke. (Gave birth to a healthy, baby boy a couple hours later!) It also won't harm the baby in any way!

Another option is to talk to your doctor if you seriously feel like it's time, but you're probably better off just waiting for the baby to come when he/she is ready. If it takes a little longer than expected, that's perfectly fine. Trust your body. I came 3 weeks late, and my sister was 3 weeks early, and neither one of us had to be artificially induced, we just came when we were ready lol! Babies don't take exactly the same amount of time to develop, so they can come up to 4 weeks before or 3 weeks after their due date and still be perfectly healthy. Just hang in there!

Congratulations though!!!! I'm sure it will be a very exciting experience when he/she comes!! Just gotta wait a liiiittle bit longer!! :-)

The estimated due date can be off anywhere from 2 to 4 wks which is why it's so dangerous to induce your own labor. I have a friend whose doctor estimated wrong and the baby was born severly premature. Having said that I've been where you are 3 times and it's not any fun to be that pregnant especially in the summer. The safest thing to do is get lots of walking. Walking can speed labor but won't start anything if it's not time yet. Good luck and try to hang in a little longer.

Primrose oil will help to induce labor. A friend of mine took them buy mouth and inserted them vaginally. Her Dr said it was ok and not harmful. Evening primrose oil is an excellent source of prostaglandins, which we already determined readies your cervix for labor. It can be taken orally as soon as 34 weeks, and can be applied directly to the cervix at full term (36 weeks). The general recommendation is two 500mg capsules per day until week 38, at which time you increase to 3-4 per day. The entire capsule can be inserted vaginally (inserted just before bed, it will dissolve before the first time you wake to use the bathroom), or you can use the oil on your fingers for your perinea massage, then also rub on your cervix (assuming you can reach it). Applying directly to the cervix is optimal, but the beneficial ingredients are absorbed through the external skin or the stomach. Don't use Blue and Black Cohosh they are dangerous and castor oil doesn't work I know a lot of people who have tried it all it will do is make your tummy upset maybe even make you throw up not a good experience when pregnant. Good luck. This only made me go 10 days early but hey that is a little help right :) and safely early. A good long walk if you can handle it helps to. Don't wear yourself out though

You could kill the baby and yourself if you tried doing something. I have been told before to ride down a bumpy road would help but I never had to try it. You're not far from 40 weeks full term and that baby will come when it gets ready. If you're that miserable please contact your doctor and ask if they can induce your labor and if everything is alright with you and the baby I'm sure they will.

I was 2 days from being 38 wks when I went into labor with my first baby and I knew what was happening and she wasn't waiting on anyone.

Good Luck and I hope the best for you.

When I was 38 weeks, my doctor told me to do a lot of walking and to have sex. I wouldn't recommend the sex part to you only because everyone is different. Having sex in this stage of a pregnancy could be harmful to some people. Only if your doctor told you that it was still fine for you, then go for it. But the walking part is what they make you do in the hospital when they are trying to induce you anyways. I hope this works for you, if not the baby is not ready. Good luck.

NOTHING. The baby will come when it is ready. Trying to induce yourself can be dangerous to the baby. Although a lot of people below have told you to have sex, while it is true that there is a chemical in semen that will soften the cervix, it will not actually start labor, and DO NOT use Raspberry tea leaf. This has been proven to be dangerous!!

Let the hot shower hit your breasts. Doing so will release prolactin and stimulate contractions which could stimulate labor. Massaging your breasts could also have this effect. If these do not work, you may need to talk to your obstetrician and have him induce you with Pitocin. Good luck-been there and this is what the hospital had me do.

I can't imagine why you'd want to rush your delivery but in the old days women would drink a bottle of Castor oil. If it is time you will go into labor with in a couple hours if not you will crap for 2 days. You are crazy, but knock yourself out
