Well i have brothers and a sister, I know I'm supposed to not be so selfish, but I asked my mom to stop buying chips, ice-cream, cake, cookies, etc. But she won't! HELLO? I'm trying to lose weight here, and plus my mom is supposed to show my little siblings how to eat healthy not get used to junk food like she did to me. SO MY QUESTION IS: How do I not eat all of this good food my mom buys, when it's sitting right in front of me, and it looks soooooo good. HOW DO I DO IT! Help Please!

Well, first of it DOES sound selfish, it is just a simple game of mind control. Just because YOU don't want to eat junk food doesn't mean your brothers and sister don't want it and your mom and other family members don't want it. YOU have to STRONG enough to RESIST it and eat something else when you are hungry.

Also know the difference between being hungry and being bored! I use to get bored and think I was hungry or "had the munchies" but in reality I am just bored, my body wasn't asking for food.

Also if you think that the junk food is such a big problem first, sit down and speak CALMLY with your mother and ask her to CUT BACK (not completely STOP) and do it for reasons other then your diet (make it about someone else). Also sit down and watch the show "Honey, We're Killing The Kids" on TLC (if you get TLC, look it up I am not sure when it is coming on anymore) with her and see if that can give you and your mom some healthy choices and come to an AGREEMENT that can make the WHOLE FAMILY happy!!!! Or see if she wants to sign up for the show! :-)

But if the compromise doesn't work then you need to have WILL POWER and not eat it. Just because it is there doesn't mean YOU have to eat it, find something ELSE to eat. Set an example to your brothers and sister and if they don't follow it watch THEM become unhealthy while YOU stay healthy.

Hope it is helpful!

This is my advice to you when you do eat be conscious of what your putting in your mouth. Protein is a good solution too. When you are full and you've head a well balanced meal ie protein, fat, carb- you'll be less likely to crave junk foods! And when I say protein, fat and carb as a well balanced meal I don't mean fried chicken, french fries and soda- that's what I call bad nutrience. It is decieveing in the way that it looks like it fits the requirements and you want it, so why not? Don't fall for it! Usually you will try and make yourself believe junk is healthy! (I know I do!)

Their has to be some reasonable foods in your house find those! Look at the labels on the foods your eating... when you think about it it can be quite gross! Will Power won't work. I hate to say it but were human and we crave!
I recommend fruit! Its really yummy even if it takes a bit to get use to! Its sweet but in a different way than all the chocolaty sweet! Be balanced don't rule out every thing junkie but be strict with yourself! If you love McDonald's treat yourself to it every 2 weeks! Its more special then and your not depriving yourself completely!
If you have any more questions I would love to answer them! Just post it here and I'll get it!

P.S. The saying if it tastes to good it's probably not good for me... is usually true. FYI Normally it takes a month before you like a new food.

Cut back on the junk food a little a day. Set yourself a goal to eat less junk food. Eat other things also. When you want a snack get a fruit or yogurt. A healthy substitute for the fatty foods.

I know EXACTLY where you are coming from. Try offering something that is sweet but healthy. Tell your mom to buy some fruits instead. Or, if you can, do your own grocery shopping. I've eliminated a lot of unheathy foods that way but I also live with my great-grandparents, so I do the majority of the shopping.

o.k., this is a no brainer here. STOP EATING THE JUNK FOOD!!!!! just stop it's that simple. will power; that's really all it is. it's not your moms fault for buying it, it's your fault for eating it. be the example to your siblings, show them that they don't have to eat it even if it is "right in front of them". and after none of you eat it your mom will stop buying it.

You should look for alternative snacks such as apples or something else. Maybe something else to try would be to limit the time you stay in the kitchen or wherever they are, then they won't be sitting right in front of you.

That food will remain in the real world. You'll see it everywhere. You have to make up your mind that it's not for you period. Once you make that commitment, it will become easier and easier to look at it and just walk away.

Ah. Conflict. Welcome to adulthood.

The answer is that you must show self-control; you'll find that there are many tempting treats in the world, and not all of them would be in your best interests to take. If you have already developed strength from within, you'll be ready.

Good luck, dear!

Tell her she's an "enabler," and that she's instilling lifelong unhealthy eating habits in you and your siblings.
