Kittens should be 8 to 12 weeks old before they go to a new home.
Make sure the kitty is taken to the vet asap and checked out.
Feed it a good food like Science Diet (cheap cat foods make their litterbox smell). Also, they will be healthier and have shiny coats.
Get a leash & harness if you ever take it outdoors.
Get an ID tag for the kitty - no bells, they are annoying to the cat.
Make sure the litter box is always clean
Make sure the food dishes and water dish are cleaned out daily and replenished. If water splashes into the dry food dish, it can grow mold quickly and the cat won't eat it or would get sick.
Check out some books from the library - or buy books on cat care.
Don't declaw - use the squirt gun method to train the cat not to claw on furniture. Also supply lots of various scratching posts.
Read this: http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm
Get a kitty condo/perch - well worth the money - ours is on it many times a day and loves climbing - it's an instinct.
Favorite cat toy: DaBird - loves to chase that thing! They also like paper bags - a ping pong ball in the shower to chase and there are lots of things out there for them in the pet stores these days.
Have fun and give it lots of love. :)

I rescued an abandoned kitten that was about 2 weeks old, the mother left her behind and alone, after waiting a day to see if she came back for the kitten I took her in, bottle fed her, helped her go potty, got up about every 4 hours to do this for a few weeks, its a pain especially if you dont know what your doing... I had to learn quick! If you dont have the time for all of this I highly suggest you leave the kitten with its mom, go to a shelter and find a kitten that could use a home alot more than one thats being flown in to you. Mine is doing great now, at almost 2 months old im having a blast with her, but to get to this point its been tough.. They need the bond with their mother and the play time with the other kittens, so trust me, unless the kittens fate is most likely death 'as mine was' just leave it with its mom.

You shouldn't adopt a kitten until it is 7--8 weeks old. Being seperated from its mother at such a young age may cause several behavior problems. The kitten learns much of everything it needs to know from its mother during those crusial weeks. But, talk with a veterinarian, read kitten care books, talk with experienced breeders, etc. Do everything you can to learn more about the little guy.
Or, you could just wait untill he's 8 weeks old. ^^

kittens should stay with their mother until they are at least 8 weeks old . they need all the vitamins and health giving nutrients in their mothers milk . also they need the inter -action with their brothers and sisters . if this is not possible it will need all the time you can spend with it for the next month . failure to do this will result in an introverted and possibly ill tempered animal .remember cats can be trained not only house trained but to sit beg and roll over just like many dogs . they are intelligent and need a stimulant environment . remember they can live for 20 years .

You're getting her at 2 weeks old? That's way too early. Usually 6-8 weeks is when kittens are ready to leave their mother.

That is WAY to early, 6-8 weeks is when they are ready to leave their mother not at 2 weeks, Her eyes will just be opening then. She will be malnutritioned and more likely to get sick now and later on in life with out her mothers milk.

Get evrything you need for your kitty.. a litter pan and a veterinary ready to do a check up on her when it gets to you. Remember to get her shots and to get the best food there is, always check the food labels ingridients and choose the one with most protein in it. ALways remember to be patient yet firm on teaching it the rules of the house, unless you will want to abide to the cats later on in life. NEUTER it ^^ and enjoy your new baby

Make sure you have a vet lined up so the kitten can get its shots as soon as possible (ask the vet how old the cat has to be to get them)...
get some milk replacement from a pet store or your vet, then get a good quality kitten food like Iams; add the milk replacement to the food so that it gets plenty of milk at first, then gradually decerase the milk till you aren't moistening the food (this might take about 2 months, depending on how the kitten's teeth are developing)...
get a pet bed and some kind of scratching post if you aren't going to declaw it (personally, I would declaw if the cat will be strictly indoors)...
if the cat is longhaired, get a special comb to keep its fur from getting matted and help with shedding; if it's not, get a good comb to catch loose underfur (human combs don't always work)...
above all, love your kitty - after all, she's depending on you!
P.S. I was told by my vet not to feed a cat canned food or treats - canned food to a cat's teeth is like sugar to a human's, and treats are nothing more than cat food in fancy packages (they're extra calories that can add up to extra pounds!)

I would wait until she is 6 weeks old before you get her. It's better for her in both psychological and physical health to leave her with her mother until then.
Also, when you bring her home, watch her, but don't over stimulate her with interaction. Don't try to introduce her to too many new toys until she has had time to get used to her new invironment. If you over stimulate her, she may become withdrawn or stressed.
