To get a phone number, you just ask. It's that simple. Don't fall for that "Oh, just give me your number instead and I'll call you" line. That's usually what women say when they don't have the nerve to tell you that they don't want to give you their number.

Also, the phone is for making dates. I know it's a popular idea to stay on the phone for hours (like that idiot from the eHarmony commercial), but you should restrict the use of the phone to only when you're making a date. You should not spend more than 5 minutes on the phone at a time, ever. If the girl won't shut up, just tell her to save whatever she was saying for the date. The reason the phone is so harmful if you carry on a conversation on it is that there's no way to observe any body language over the phone. You can't get some crucial cues from the girl that could keep you on the right track in the conversation. And there's something about a phone that makes people want to talk too much. You may end up saying things that have no business being said over the phone. Remember, 5 minutes max!

Don't bother her when she's busy. If she has a determined look about, leave her alone, it means she's not open to conversation. If she looks like she just out for a stroll to defeat boredom, then go for it. When you do approach her, keep it short. Especially if you don't really have anything to say.
