what is it with you people and this cult thing.
Every thing with you is a cult.
A cult is something that has a living leader who is worshipped.
It holds secret meetings not open to the public.
Something you can't get out of alive.
Holds this thing over people.
I don't know who Free-masons is but does it do all that stuff?

Some may consider them to be. I don't believe they are classifed as such. I know there are a lot of good people that are and have been free masons. Our first president (George Washington) Ben Franklin was also a free mason. Many Shriners are free masons and they do much work for to help children with medical needs. I could go on and on with the good that they do. I don't agree with everything they stand for. I believe to become a free mason their one requirement is that you believe in a supreme being. (Not necesarilly God) I have read If I remember correctly that the Scottish Masons require that you believe in God to join them. I have also heard once you become a mason you can never get out. That sort of sounds like a cult. But again, I try not to judge them. There is good and bad in everyone. God Bless You.

In that Freemasons keep secret the rituals and at times must keep secret their membership (since in places and at times it is death to belong to the Freemasons), YES, Freemasons are occult in the true meaning of the word.

I am a Freemason (of the esoteric Order known as American Co-Masonry). If you are truly interested in why we keep safe our rituals, you may be disappointed. We urge our members not to read beyond their degree, although many details of Ancient Freemasonic degrees have been published. The reason is that we wish our members to experience the degree ritual first hand, not to be comparing it with some book learning.

Now if you wish to tar Freemasonry with some sort of sinister brush, look at what your intent is and what Freemasonry has accomplished. Look who the detractors are and what they wish for you. Freemasons may be rightly accused of accepting into our Brotherhood men (and in our case WOMEN) of all religious faiths, as long as they believe in a Supreme Being. Since we are not a religion. Just as the ancient mystery schools of old, we work to refine life on this planet and make no claim as to what happens when you pass through the veil of death.

We are not a cult. We do not demand our members sacrifice their familial, social, religious, or civic duties. If anything, we sincerely encourage our members to greater activity in all those realms. You cannot be a good Mason while being a bad father, bad husband, bad citizen, or bashing religions. We have no cult leader like Jim Jones or Charlie Manson. Fact is, Freemasonry is pretty well made up of many small and free organizations.

Look at what the masculine rite Shriners have done with their burn and spinal chord injury hospitals for children. Those kids and their parents need never pay anything for the treatment. I do not see many other organizations doing that. That is not part of American Co-Masonry, but I always try to give something to them.

We make no secret as to who we are here in America. As I said before, in other places (Nazi Germany, Portugal not too long ago, and even in some fundamentalist places of other faiths) it is a death sentence to treat all people on the Level and to act on the Square.

I remind all my human brethren of Titus 1:15 "Unto the pure all is pure; unto the defiled, nothing is clean."

I had an uncle that was one and my parents always talked like they were some kind of cult. Especially in the upper levels of the masons.

Not any more. There's nothing "hidden" (occult) about them. Now, are they Christian? Hell no.
