From a sewing guideline, stand in front of a mirror.
Put a measuring tape around you at the point where, when you bend to the side, you see the crease in your side.
This will be above your belly button.

for clothing sizes and medical charts, usually when they refer to "waist size," they mean @ navel level for men. men sometimes have enough stomach fat to make the actual waist location unclear. the waist can actually be the same size, smaller, or larger, than the hips. like me: my waist is 33inches, & my hips are 32 inches. for women, the waist is measured @ the smallest distance around her body, between the lowest rib & the hips.

take a tape measure and measure your foot. then measure you arm from finger tip to bend in your arm. they will be almost the exact same size. that is how wide your wasite is. Cool, try it!
