Blood in the stool
Unexplained anemia (anemia in any adult who is not a menstruating woman should almost always be evaluated by a colonoscopy)
Abdominal pain and tenderness in the lower abdomen
Intestinal obstruction
Weight loss with no known reason
Stools narrower than usual

Unexplained weight loss, bloody stools, irritable bowels... you do not want to wait until this point is reached, however. Make an appointment to see the doctor and have a colonoscopy done. Colon cancer can be successfully treated when it's caught early enough.

blood in your "stool" (usually dark blood, since it's not fresh blood). if you have ANY suspicion/family history, get thee to a physician at once. colon cancer is easy to treat. if it spreads elsewhere, you may not be so lucky.

you need to get a sigmoidoscopy/colonoscopy. neither of these is "pleasant", but they are no big deal. the prep used to be worse than the procedure, but there are some great products now that prevent the need for drinking a gallon of what tastes like gatorade (sorry, gatorade!)

go to you doctor, a little discomfort beats the heck out of dying!

best wishes!
