Qur’an 5:51 “Believers, take not Jews and Christians for your friends.”.

This is from the Koran, and it tells you not to have friends from among the Jews or Christians. It this true? Or is there something I do not get. If there is, please explain.

Oh thank goodness you asked this question.

I want to tell you about the hypocricy of muslims. I just cannot get it anymore.

I was just watching a tv program half an hour ago where the two hosts were saying there is nothing like this in the koran.

They said every muslim should go out and get a non muslim as a friend and invite them home and talk to them about islam and muslims and how muslims are peace loving and caring about the world.

They even mentioned how their prophet was a human rights person, gave an example and said we muslims fight for human rights.

Oh this is so hypocritical. I dont even know what to make of muslims anymore. Do you see what they are like? They will never tell you the truth.

They lie about everything.

They cheat you

They will kill you without a second thought

They will destroy your home to build their own

They will abduct or rape your women and make excuses of every kind that it is not true.

There is no rape in islam as mentioned but what should be done when they rape a woman who is not muslim.

These people are so criminal in their ways and they have gotten away with it.

I am shocked that no one has fought back in 1400 years. It must be fear that keeps us away yet they are perpetrators coming to destroy our homes and our lives.

Thank you for the question.

The Old Testament tells Jews the same thing. That's why Jews seldom marry non-Jews.

Jews and Christians were plotting against Muslims to wipe them out. Making friends with some of them would have been dangerous, as the Jews had already betrayed Mohammed by opening the city gates to the idolators. The Quran is speaking of the Jews and Christians living in proximity to Mohammed at the time.

The Quran also states that truly faithful Jews and Christians will go to Heaven. It states elsewhere that Muslims may befriend anyone who treats them justly (and doesn't plot against them).

Read the whole book.

OK I`ll put here a quote from my local newspaper ,but first a little background.Last Saturday (22nd) a local taxi driver (a Muslim) was booked to pick up a fare of five people in an area of my town.He arrived at approximately 11.20pm and was promptly set upon by a gang of white English youths ,ages from 16 - 19 ,he died of his injuries a short time after the ambulance came to him.
Today (29th) the local Taxi companies have ALL come out on strike from 11pm until 6am to protest their lack of safety in this their adopted country.
There was a service of remembrance ,multi-denominational,today where his friends and family spoke about their loss."Friends" who had never met the man ever ,of ALL denominations, attended.
His brother-in-law said and I quote :-
"Muslims believe it is a great sin to take an innocent life ,for killing an innocent life is like killing the whole of Humanity."
As I write this six white youths have been charged in connection with his murder the oldest 19 and the youngest 16.
Like the Bible there are good and bad things written in the Koran ,if you take either too literally you won`t have ANY friends.

Hi....
Thx for asking that question.
I`m a muslim. There is some error in your question. In the real translation is like this.
Believers, do not take the jews and christian as your guider and leader.
All of the muslim is not restricted from the socialization among the non-mulim. Even, we are have to, as long as those people not force us such as the america and israel nowdays.

And also the Holy Qur`an is not soo easy to be translated. A lot of hiding meaning inside.

Do not provoke with my answer.

Many people critique Islam by saying that it does not tolerate other religions when it clearly states in the Qur’an: “[…] and He does not forbid you to deal kindly and justly with anyone who has not fought you for your faith or driven you out of your homes: God loves the just.” 60:8 Perhaps the qur’anic verse they rely on the most is verse 5:51 which says: “You who believe, do not take the Jews and Christians as allies: they are allies only to each other. Anyone who takes them as an ally becomes one of them – God does not guide such wrongdoers.” However, the Jews and Christians talked about here are clearly just the ones who are against the Muslim camp, as is clear from the following verses up to 5:59 : “You who believe, do not take as allies those who ridicule your religion and make fun of it – whether people who were given the Scripture before you, or disbelievers – and be mindful of God if you are true believers. When you make the call to prayer, they ridicule it and make fun of it: this is because they are people who do not reason. Say [Prophet], ‘People of the Book, do you resent us for any reason other than the fact that we believe in God, in what was sent down to us, and in what was sent before us, while most of you are disobedient?’ ”

proof that Islam does not oppose peoples’ different beliefs can be seen in the following qur’anic verses: “The [Muslim] believers, the Jews, the Christians, and the Sabians – all those who believe in God and the Last Day and do good – will have their rewards with their Lord. No fear for them, nor will they grieve”; 2:62 “Some of the People of the Book believe in God, in what has been sent down to you and in what was sent down to them: humbling themselves before God, they would never sell God’s revelation for a small price. These people will have their rewards with their Lord: God is swift in reckoning”; 3:199 “You [Prophet] are sure to find that the most hostile to the believers are the Jews and those who associate other deities with God ; you are sure to find that the closest in affection towards the believers are those who say, ‘We are Christians,’ for there are among them people devoted to learning and ascetics. These people are not given to arrogance, and when they listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger, you will see their eyes overflowing with tears because they recognize the truth [in it]. They say, ‘Our Lord, we believe, so count us amongst the witnesses. Why should we not believe in God and in the truth that has come down to us when we long for our Lord to include us in the company of the righteous?’ For saying this, God has rewarded them with Gardens graced with flowing streams, and there they will stay: that is the reward of those who do good.” 5:82-85

As a Pagan I have made a point of reading other faiths holy text and I beleive that it is a miss translation. I think it really says they should not take Christians and Jews as leaders. Like a lot of things in this country all Muslims as been lumped togehter and labled as bad or evil. They take the 3% of left wing ones and think it is all of them.
