It's not verbal abuse, but it can be taken to that extent.
People use sarcasm to put a humorous, and often honest, twist on something that might otherwise make them angry.
People who use sarcasm need this as an outlet.

Sarcasm: an example:
You're at a cookout with a buddy. The burgers are served too rare, and are cold. Your buddy asks, "How's the burger?"
You reply in a loud, obnoxious tone, "Oh, sure, it's great!! One of the best I ever had! Yeah, you'd make a million selling THESE puppies!!"
Clearly, you don't actually mean that...you were being SARCASTIC.

It can be verbal abuse, but more often than not, it is just a part of a person's sense of humor. I know that I can be sarcastic sometimes. Lighten up.

it depends, some people have a natural dry, witty disposition where they employ sarcasm often. i do use it with people who are well, less intelligent then i am because they just don't catch on as quickly, which makes me laugh.
