when you get to heaven, and god tells you the meaning to life. you'll kick yourself because the answer was right in front of you the whole time?

Probably. The simplest answers are usually right in front of our noses anyway. And the reality IS, -that whatever answer works best for YOU- is probably the right one. So when the clueless minions finally stand before God and ask Him, "WHAT was THAT all about..?"- "He's gonna smile at them- & say, "Let's try that again, shall we?"- and back they'll go for another lifetime of trying to figure it out...

The meaning of life? The meaning of life is what YOU put into it and that is what you percieve to be the thing to do. God will tell US Christians the final part of life's meaning but we are always working toward it as Christians when we follow Jesus.

The meaning is that God created man to demonstrate His love for us. Those of us who choose to follow Him will spend eternity in His love, not smacking our heads wondering why we didn't realize the meaning of life.
