I have severe pain in my low back from an injury. I take percocet most of the time but occasionally need something stronger. They don't make me sleepy....actually they keep me awake or allow me to take short naps then wide awake and refreshed.

Have tryed many others...ie:Vicoden, Duragesic Patch, Oxycontin, etc. Been in pain for 4 years now....broken back. Afraid of addiction and hurting myself while on the pills so I don't take them every day. When not on them I am pretty much stuck in the recliner or bed. It is nice to not have such a high level of pain on them but I am like busting at the seams with energy with them. It's quite strange since I thought they should make me sleepy. They do make me loopy tho....lol

When you are always dragged down by chronic pain, then any reprieve, even from medicine, can fool your brain in to thinking that you are healed, and your body will respond in kind. It is a fine like to walk between dependence on these medications, and a better quality of life.

There are some pain medications that make your head race. You feel sort of buzzed and yet your head is all jumbled up and gong going going. Sleeping is the hardest thing to do. You just need to call your doctor and get a different medication. This is not an uncommon occurence. Tylenol 3 may be better for you or Darvocet. He may have to try a few before it is right. Vicoden and percocet and Tylenol 4 do the same thing to me. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I'm not really sure why this happens, but it happens to me also. If I am up and doing something, I find I have lots of energy. Once I lay down however, I am able to sleep well.
I believe this may be considered an idiosyncracy, but I am not positive.
