It's the other way around. A typical 16-year-old thinks of herself as a "woman"; a typical 60-year-old thinks she is a "young lady." The cross over is at around 39.

I'm sure there will be as many different opinions as there are answers, but the difference is a subjective one. I don't believe there is an age that can be used as a guideline. For example, I have worked with two young women (how's that for a dodge? :) ) of the same age...19. One seems closer to 14 and the other is more mature, as if she were in her mid twenties. I think the best way to look at it is how are you living? Are you accepting responsibility for your actions? Paying your own way? To me the term "young lady" has a conotation of immaturity to it, unless used as a term of endearment.

It's not a specific age - I think any female that is physically mature is a woman, but not every woman is a lady. A lady has class, treats herself and others with respect and courtesy, and sets an example for others.

I don't believe there is a specific age, although I think it happens between the ages of 18-21 .( or older, but not younger than 19)
I felt I became a woman at age 20 when I graduated from nurses training. My sister when she became a teacher. A friend at agae19 when she became a mother.

It's all in the eyes of the beholder and how you feel about yourself. I am a very young at heart person of 56 and there are lots of times I still feel like a girl. There is no age limit or cut off. If you want to be a woman, you act like one and be one. If you want to be young at heart, that's what you are. It depends what you want for yourself.

It's all relative... to a ninety year old, a fifty year old would still be a 'young lady' and called one.
I think around 40 you tend to not be considered a young lady because no matter how young you look... you'll start looking old...

hmm. hard to say... when she has sex the first time... but then again 12 yr olds are having sex now a days... maybe when she turns 18 and she is legally considered an adult... maybe when she is mature and no longer acts like a "young lady" ... maybe when she has kids... kids will MAKE you grow up
