Topamax. It was prescribed to me for migraine, and it did work on preventing migraine. I was melting away. Everybody loses weight on it. It's an anti-seizure medication that is prescribed for a lot of other reasons. I heard that its mother company was trying to get approval for it as a weight loss pill. Other than losing weight, it does a lot of unpleasant things to people. Side effects include mood disorders, to the point of being jittery and belligerant, having crying fits, suicidal thoughts, and twitching in the face. But, hey, you asked if one ever lost a really subtantial amount of weight? I sure did. I looked so chic, I could wear anything, until people started saying you have no ***, and this is more like heroin chic. This is in only three or four months at the most. It did not stay off though. A year later, I had gained twenty pounds, but I was never overweight.

Actually I did. About 10 years ago I lost 60 lbs. in about 4 months. I cut fat out of my diet and tried to keep the calories low. I ate carbs, protien, fruit and vegetables...what ever I liked as long as it was low in fat and healthy. I also walked ... alot. I probably walked about 2-3miles a day...fast, not a stroll. I never strayed and I was very strict and it just came off. I felt and looked great. My thought process was that if you don't put any fat into your body and your burning off whats already there than you'll lose. Ofcourse I looked so good I got a boyfriend, who then became my husband, and then I had two children who brought with them an extra 40 lbs each. I kept the weight off for 6 years and then had two healthy babies. I'm back on my diet though and I am proud to say it is working again. I'm down 30 lbs and I have about 40 more to go...but I'm doing it.

I lost 65 lbs. on the South Beach Diet in about 6 months. It became lifestyle and it wasn't too hard to do. Best of all, I didn't spend more than $5. I just bought the guideline book and that's it. No special foods, meeting, or consultants. The pounds seemed to melt off.

Fruits are always good. To lose weight, Brisk running ( NOT JOGGING) will definately work. Surgery is for lazy bones and not for you. Better recharge yourself and burn fats fast. Eat low Cal food and avoid cold drinks.

Evaluate -- daily -- my input / output calories. I used a spreadsheet to track it. I found that limiting calorie intake was much more effective than burning them off.

@ 40, I went from 195 to 150 in 3 or 4 months. I'm now 43.5 and 14x.
