My grandma said that I cannot continue on with my boyfriend, just simply because that he's not a German!!! whats the big deal? she said that this family has been pure-"breed" German through generations and generations, and that I cannot ruin it for the family! does it really matter? Whats so good about Germany? I've never even been there in my whole 16 years of life. and I am not leaving my boyfriend after all that we've been through. My grandma just has TOO much national pride. I tried to talk to her, but she won't listen and insisted that I dump him. and I told her that I'm not doing it. do you guys think that I should try and have my dad talk to her?

Your grandmother just can't get over how the Italians screwed over the Nazis during WWII. She probably cried when the Berlin wall went down, not because it meant unity, but because it meant the communists were dead in Germany.
Tell her to jump off her rocker...
Stay with your boyfriend and hopefully everything goes well and you have beautiful Italian-German children with blue eyes and black hair.

Your grandma is too attached to the old credo that a race cannot mix with another "lower" race, in this case an Italian. If you really love your boyfriend and he's nice to you, then you should stick to your guns. Tell your grandma that you love her very much but you will not dump your boyfriend and if she loves you, too, she should accept him. Even if she doesn't right now, she'll come around, I'm sure, once she knows him better. It won't hurt to have allies, like your father, talk to her. By the way, I'm Italian, so I know how your grandma thinks.

Hey, I am French, German, Italian and proud of it. The world has changed since your grandma was dating! When you start worring about pure breed it starts to sound a bit Nazi. Date him with pride and don't worry about what she thinks! Do it for all of us that have crossed the alps :)
