There are several reasons Islam is the fastest growing religion:
1.Countries that are predominately Muslim or have a large Muslim minority (i.e. India), are generally third world, and are therefore less inclined to utilize birth control methods. They even encourage the notion that having large families is a good thing. Naturally a religion that benefits from a culture that has a great deal of fecundity (great deal of reproduction) will have an increasing number of adherents.
2.Most countries where Islam is predominate are primarily theocracies where Islam and the government are inextricably linked. This provides an environment that makes conversion to another faith prohibitive by force of law.
3.Many Islamic societies are closed off from outside influence. Even when Muslim communities exist in liberal areas like the United States and Amsterdam, they tend to segregate themselves, thereby precluding influences that could cause their children to stray from their faith.
4.Competing faiths such as Christianity and Judaism are embracing modernity to such an extent that many of its subscribers are becoming secularists. Sometimes in order to fill the void that naturally comes about when one skirts ones faith, you grasp for something that resembles a less complicated form of your former faith. Islam, in that it borrows from both Christian and Jewish sources, but removes much of their complex traditions (i.e. the trinity, rabbinical laws, and theories of atonement), mistakenly becomes the replacement.
We need to be vigilant concerning the increasing encroachment of Islam in the west. Despite what apologists for the faith like to claim, the aims of Islamic theology are in discord with the values of the West, and could result in our undoing.

"Muslim's claim that their growth rate is 235 percent and 47 percent for Christianity. This statistic came from the Readers Digest Almanac and Yearbook 1983, and represents 235 percent increase over 50 years. Muslims always leave off the 50 year fact to make it appear they are going 235% every year. A simple review of the readers Digest study shows that the growth rate of Islam vs. Christianity is directly linked to the birth rate in Third World countries where Islam dominates and not actual conversions to each religion. Christianity has always been larger than Islam."
The answer seems to be lower birth rate in the west coupled with higher birth rate in muslim countries.

There are 2 reasons that Islam is the second fastest growing religion. (Evangelical Christianity is smaller but growing about 1 and 1/2 times faster).
1) The birth rate in mostly muslim nations is much higher than in many other countries.
2) There is a strong emphasis on spreading the message of Islam
Finally, not all muslims are going to hell. Only those who refuse to see the total inadequacy of their own good works to achieve salvation and refuse to trust Jesus Christ as the one who earned it for them already. Many muslims are beginning to realize this. See for yourself

Well, it's not the fastest growing religion in terms of converts, it's the fastest growing religion in terms of BIRTH RATE. There's a definite difference in measurement.
EDIT: You are sadly misinformed. Islam is NOT the fastest growing religion when you consider only converts. Islam is the fastest growing religion ONLY if you consider birth rate.

I wouldn't say that it's growing because of an expanding stream of adult converts. In the portions of the world where the population is ever expanding, and people are subject to abject poverty and lack of education, and where there is vicious intimidation to become a Muslim or die most likely has much to do with the increase.

Everyone doesn't say that only those people so diluded into thinking that theirs is the only way. Its the fastest growing religion because until recently it was looked upon as a peaceful religion based upon teachings and practices and not making its followers feel like crap when they sinned.

Islam is the only true religion. When people look at its teachings they are immediately convinced of its truth. Today, with Islam having extensive media coverage, people are wanting to learn about it themselves and when they do, they can't deny what they've learnt. Islam also has higher birth rates than other religions, but conversions to Islam are also more than conversions to any other religion. After all, bad publicity is better than no publicity... right.

This will probably be enough to have me booted off Yahoo Q & A, but I will take a chance.
#1 They tend to have very large families.
#2 In some places in the World they have up to and including four wives. Hence large families.
(I hope this is not taken as HATE!)
