Never use windex...the ammonia is too harsh for the various coatings found on lenses these days. If you don't have a bottle of lens cleaner and a microfiber cloth, best thing to use is Dawn dish liquid. Wet the lenses, use only a drop of soap, and rinse well. dry with a flat towel, no terry cloth, or an old t-shirt

A non-abraisive soap - a face soap - or liquid dishwashing soap; gently roll the soap around on both sides of the lenses with your fingers; then run them under cold water to get all the soap off.
Finally - and most important - dry them ONLY with a 100% cotton towel. Polyester or paper towels will slowly scratch your lenses.
Good luck.

put the glasses under some slow running water to wet them, then put a very small amount of dish soap on them. use your clean hands and rub each side of the lens. then rinse with water and dry with an old t-shirt or cloth.

clean your spectacle with a micro-fibre cloth. they are very good in removing greese on the lens.
do not use soap or detergents to wash your spectacle if your lens have multi-coat on them. using soap or detergents will cause the coating to peel.
so after a duration of cleaning the lens with the micro-fibre cloth, you may find the cloth not effective in removing the greese. Now you should wash the cloth with soaps or detergents to remove the greese and dry the cloth after that.
do not use clothes, t-shirt, paper to clean your lenses as they will scratch your lenses.

That is one of the most adorable stories I have ever heard. Makes your heart warm and smile thinking that people even think that way sometimes. Thank you.
