i dont know how old ours is.. but im guessing abt 3-4 years

Well it doesn't exactly spoil, it just gets really hard and ruins the recipe. I would go buy some more if I were you. Just seal it in a tupperware container and it will last longer.

No but it can get contaminated from outside in humid conditions.Check if it's still dry and you know it was always in a closed dry environment it should be OK.
Sugar doesn't spoil,

no, because water never spoils and sugar never spoils either, we had brown sugar since we moved and my mom always use that sugar and we never get sick!lol

No, i don't think it spoils, but to soften it, place in microwavable bowl with a apple slice, nuke for 30 sec.+

it can get lumpy, but depending on the recipe, my be salvaged; if it is still soft, you can still use it
