the debate of abortion under jewish law is very complicated. i have had amny dicussions with rabbis and other religious leaders on the topic and have come to the conclusion that it is permittable under the law of the torah. according to the torah a child is not considered alive until birth and is not even given a name until its bris. this is because in those times it was common for a child to to die during or soon after birth. also it says in the torah that the life of the mother takes precidence of the life of the child in the womb. therefore if the mothers life is in danger due to the birth of the child it shall not be born. as for the punishment for murder issue that is completely different. to be punished by death there must be two witnesses of the crime for one to be condemned. that is what the torah says and that is what i follow, but you are free to believe as you wish. i am not very versed in the writing about abortion in the new testiment.

From what I understand Judaism believes that a child is a Life from the point of conception. Yes the penalty for murder is death, under the Old Testament law but Yeshua (Jesus) said that was no more and now we are to turn the other cheek. The death penalty is not wrong you should research more into the sacrifices for sin in the old testament. There are several sins that were punishable by death.

So if you are going to quote and live by ancient jewish law then you need to abide by all the othe laws contained in Exodus and Leviticus for example did you prepare a unblemished lamb for sacrifice this week? How is it you can pick and choose which laws are valid and which you no longer need to abide by? Also it is a personal choice if you are opposed to abortion then you are very lucky because you or your partner depending on your sex never need to have one and if those who do are actually commiting murder and thus a sin then God will take care of that for You so really why don't you just go watch the Flinstones or something and chill out?

I do not agree with abortion or capital punishment either but to me abortion is murder. It is the murder of an innocent life and the parents souls. Too many women struggle with the repercussions of what was supposed to be a right choice.

You also have to consider Numbers 5. If a woman is suspected of adultery, in other words, if she is pregnant and her husband doesn't think it's his, her husband takes her to the priest and he makes her drink a potion of water and dust. If she is guilty of adultery, the original Hebrew idiom says that she will spontaneously abort the fetus ("her thigh will fall away", a euphemism for losing a fetus). In other words, if the child is of adultery, she has a ritual abortion performed by the priest.

Well, abortion is not murder according to the law of the United States. Although, I suppose in the "spirit of the law" it is... but not in the "letter of the law..."

I find abortion personally abhorrent. But women can do what they want with their bodies. I don't really care, because I'm a male. It's on them, not me.

Love, Jack

According to the bible myths, life begins when a fetus breathes through his nostrils.

A fetus is not a "living soul." The passage you cite does not refer to abortion or causing a miscarriage as "murder."

i dont think abortion of the mothers choice really counts as murder coz it isnt even born yet... however if she was gonna keep it and some loser did something harmful to her and her body had no choice but to abort the child then it should be considered as a murder trial.
