The new testament was really just a way to change the bible to widen its appeal with sappy things like love and salvation.

The new testament shows a more forgiving God than the vengeful God of Noah and Lot. Perhaps it was time for a teacher to come on earth to teach people what to do so they would stop ticking God off!

That is a very pagan question. Jesus IS God. and I don't think it goes like the way that you describe it. God smitheths them them all far worse in the second death ,even today, than he has ever given anybody from the first death recorded in scripture so don't make fun of his perfect mercy that you say is given today.

I think that before Jesus and the Catholic Church, God had to guide the Jews a little more hands-on. After Jesus, we had the blessings of the Sacraments and His teachings to help us.
