Petlover doesn't have a clue about what he's talking about.

To begin with, the new bankruptcy laws do not exempt credit card debts. It makes it harder for people to file for chapter 7. But those who file a chapter 13 still have to pay a portion of their debts. Rarely do they pay the entire amount.

You can not get credit until you are 18, unless you can get an adult to co-sign for it.

I highly recommend that teens get a card so they can begin establishing their credit history. If you don't think you can control your spending, then keep the limit on the card very low (under $500).

Generally 18, since before that you can't sign a legal contract so is difficult to hold you responsible for debt incurred. Might be able to get one younger with a cosigner.

Probably 18. That seems to be the age of accountability in this country.

I got my first at sixteen through capital one, their fees sucked though. I already had some dept. store credit cards first that my mom had cosigned for me.
