You need to try and watch G rated movies, be careful with picking friends, and stopping and smelling the roses. Try not to drink so much coffee; it tends to cause nervousness.

A swear jar can be a good way to save money but it isn't a very good way to get out of the habit of swearing. Allow me to introduce myself. I am the Caveman and I am a recovering curse-a-holic. It has been many months since my last swear word. One thing that helped me to stop swearing was becoming saved and accepting Christ as my personal Saviour. Even then however, it still took a lot of effort on my part. While I worked as a professional, I didn't really have a problem with swearing. It is when I began working in warehouse environment where a great deal of the people were unsaved and practiced swearing as a second language, when my problems soon began. I found that when you want to stop swearing it is good if you hang around people who don't swear. In a way it is a very similar to the recovery of an alcoholic. In order for an alcoholic to be successful in their recovery they must stay not only stay away from alcohol but also those who drink alcohol. Hoped my advice could be of some help. This is the Caveman signing out. Peace and God bless.

Same story here! It's funny how words that mean nothing and are wrong make u feel cool, and are hard not to use. Who made them "bad" anyway?
Well...I just made an effort to stop, and some of my friends called me on it when i did swear, but then there's those other friends who got u hooked on swearing in the first place. Just be consious of what ur saying, and know that ur letting urself, people around u, and god down. I don't think there's really a system to stop. u just need to want it bad enough. and when u think about what ur saying before ur saying it, always replace it w/ a different word...idk...it's tough.. good luck. don't stop trying to stop lol..

You have to get someone else to hold you accountable. I've heard of households having a swear jar where you have to put in a dollar for D*mn, b*tch and hell, and you have to put in $5 for F**k, Sh**, and finally $10 for God D*mn. You really just have to always be thinking about it. It's not "almost a habit" it IS a habit. I curse alot too, and I wanted to keep it clean for people at work and anytime I was around church people. I just had to watch myself all the time. It finally worked out so I was careful around the right people. I even used to be a sailor...literally.

You can stop the habit. Whenever you swear remember to repeat what you said only without the swear word in the sentence. Use a different word. Just check yourself.

There are a lot of really good suggestions here! Good question. Wanting to quit is half the battle. Carry the tape, have a jar at home and in your car, tell your friends you need them to help. I bet you don't swear at work. Or at an interview? You can do it.

Develop things to say with or instead of a swear word that sounds stupid (ex: pickle juice, flippin, etc). The point being that you'll mentally tie the stupid word with what you want to say and eventually won't say either. Because of the stupid word, it is supposed to alleviate using anything in these scenarios. You see how stupid it sounds and realize that the situation isn't necessary for a curse word or any exclamation at all.
Good Luck. I have a slight problem with this also and haven't used my own advice.

Wear a hair elastic or rubber band around your wrist and every time you swear flick your wrist with the band. You will eventually stop swearing because it gets quite painful after a few times!

Pschologists actually use this with their patients to stop behavioural probelms. Good luck!!!

When you feel like you might curse, try substituting a word for it. For the F word, you could say Frank and Beans (makes me laugh), for the S word, you could say Salt and Pepper....etc.
I just made new words to replace the bad words, but it has helped. Usually, I end up laughing at whatever I was swearing at. Good luck.

Every time you say a bad word, wipe the sweat from your butt and take a big whiff. You'll stop by the end of the day. I promise.

That or you'll have a TRULY disgusting habit.

I also swear like a sailor. Getting a job at a school and being w/ children curbed that habit. Try to be around children more, they'll remind you.
