According to my biblical archeology proffessor, he says it was likely a flood in the known world at the time. He noted that the plain area of that region still floods today. He says that some of the geological indicators show that the flood waters did at time reach up into the mountains like Ararat.

There is evidence of a worldwide flood in our past. There's a sedimentary layer all around the world. There are sea shells on the tops of mountains. Scientifically, there's evidence of a worldwide flood.

Biblically, God promised never again to destroy all life with a worldwide flood. Since then, there have been many server local floods that killed many people and caused lots of damage.

If Noah's Flood had been a local flood, than God would have lied when He said He would never do that again.

Since water seeks its own level, it would be depending on how high the water rose from sea level. If it was local, then it would have to be in a valley surrounded completely by mountains. Sort of like filling a bathtub. If the level was as high or higher then Mount Everest (Highest mountain in the world.) the flood would be worldwide. If Noah's Arc did exist and had two of every land creature on board. It would be safe to assume that it was world wide flood, wouldn't you think?

The flood in Noah's time didn't even happen in Noah's time. It was a legend or myth if you will that was borrowed from ancient Babylon. There is some archeological evidence that a flood did happen in ancient Babylonia but it was thousands of years before "Noah's Time." I think it is a silly story, does anyone else feel uncomfortable incorporating Babylonian stories into their spirituality?

The Old Testament tells us that one of the reasons God unleashed his flood is that humans were having sex with angels and that their offspring were dangerous giants. Umm, does that sound like a fairy tale to anyone else or is it just me?

Every culture has stories to explain the origin of the earth and the unexplained (rainbows, etc). Any story relating to Noah would have been based in the "known world". What does it change if it was just the Indian Ocean or the entire globe? Would his family have had the time and resources to gather animals from the entire world? And what about the plant life? Your faith ultimately decides whether it is fact or legend. God is love - - -don't sweat the details.

worldwide...

There has been many 'local' floods across the earth, but not a flood which has taken place on the entire earth!

God promised he wouldn't flood the earth again...but there's nothing that says he wouldn't flood specific areas. This is my main logic for believing it was WORLD wide.
