You can have her do it, but be sure she parts the hair and takes equal amounts of hair up with each curler. Be sure to wrap the ends of the hair with papers, making SUREEEEEEEEEE, the ends are totally covered, because if they are not, then you will get (fishtales) wich is not a huge big deal. Have her trim your hair after the perm, if she is not experienced in giving a perm..(to eliminate fish tales.) Use a gentle perm. Be sure she coats the ENTIRE curl with product. Not sure about all states, but in my state home perms have been banned from being sold in stores to non-cosmetologists.

If you have it done at home, you're asking for trouble. There's a reason it costs at the salon. Whoever does it can follow the directions on the box exactly and that's all well and good, but it's not easy to roll it correctly and thats very important. I can understand the temptation to do the "kitchen beautician" thing so if you do, here's some advice: Go to Sally Beauty Supply and let them help you choose a professional perm and rods. Those are far superior to grocery store products. Hopefully your aunt has done perms before. Good luck. Oh, and you'd be crazy to try to do it yourself.

Its best to let your aunt do it, sounds like she might have a little experience, and its easier for someone else to roll your hair. Ive had home perms for yrs. so did my mom and both sisters. You just have to learn what perm is best for your hair and the timing. I agree they are so much cheaper and last just as long. Just make sure to trim your hair afterwards. Makes for a smoother perm.
