My grandaughter recently went back to school and got her G.E.D..
She also just had a baby, she is determined to go back to school (college) & money is tight. a friend of mine told me that medicaid will help pay for college. I don't know how true this is. I have tried looking online for information, I end up with nothing. Any piece of info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a blessed day/night.

Medicaid does not pay for college. I f she is getting social security disability, they would probably pay for her college provided that she has a particular career in mind. The Social Security Administration Disability web site has information on the programs in every state. Type Social Security Disability into your browser and look up the info for your state. If she is not disabled, type National Direct Student Loans into your browser for info on Federal loans at low cost. Also the federal government has other programs that involve both grants and loans . To become eligible, she must first fill out the fasfa application. GO to www.fasfa.gov on the web, and take it from there. I even have friends going for post graduate degrees on grants from the federal government. There is financial help out there for her. I went through college on the Federal Student Loan program. Once I became disabled, after working for many years, I went back to college with the help of the social security "back to work program" to get myself into a career that would accommodate my disability. I wish you and your granddaughter luck.

i certainly hope not

i don't mean to be rude or mean, but your grandaughter should (and it sounds like she is trying) to improve her life without looking to the government to bail her out. I realize that money is tight, but medicaid is for medical aid. It is so that no one in this country will suffer (physically) when there is a hospital nearby that could help.

Education is provided free of charge for 12 years - beyond that the government owes you nothing. Have her look to a private organization for a scholarship - there are many our there for just this reason - if she is serious.

I think it might, Im assuming you would have to go to the medicaid office, or trying calling.

I hope she can recieve some kind of assistance!

Education is they key , so what if she needs extra help. that is why assistance is offered, obviously people need it.
I see nothing wrong with it & i work and pay taxes!
I'd rather my money go to someone who is trying to make a better life, rather than someone who sits at home all day (by choice) watching maurry with 100 kids, making no effort to better themselves.

p.s- if medicaid was strictly for medical purposes then anything extra would'nt be offered, dont you think?

No, medicaid does not pay for college. There are plenty of other federal grants that she would be eligible for.
