For various reasons, a child of mine does not eat pork--hasn't for about 13 years. When she accidentally ingested some at a family gathering, she had a severe headache for two days. (Worse than a hangover). Also, we are what we eat, and I'm sure that no Muslim wants even one cell of their being to be a pig cell (You know what I mean--don't all the biology majors start correcting me...)--The other sins you can walk away from, ask forgiveness for. Eating pork might keep that dirty meat in you for a long time, making you unclean, no matter how much forgiveness you seek.

That depends on how devote they are in their religion as to whether or not they will eat pork.
Pork was forbidden to eat during the exodus because it does not last long even when its salted as many a Pilgrim from this country found out while traveling through the desert plains of the American west.
The people brought along the live animals though for use after they found the promised land.

I am a young Muslim living in NY. I don't do those what you stated, and all other cousins I know, they don't either. What do you mean by tax evasion? This thing is near impossible in USA.
Generalizing in such way is wrong. May I ask a question? Why young people in Western countries have had sex before marriage, when it is forbidden by Bible?
So be more educated.

i think you are over generalizing a tad bit don't ya think?
you can say the same thing for someone from every religion. so your not sounding very smart, just another person using a stereotype to prove a point.
but with that said...i do know muslims like that, but they aren't really religious in the first place. so it bugs me too, but you can't judge someone when they think care to do anything beyond what society dictates them to do in their religion. if the society says its ok for them to drink, gamble and have extra marital affairs, hell ya they are going to do it. just like alot of christians do here. most people aren't religious and admit to it. i just hate the hypocrisy of it, when they say they are religious and pick and choose what to follow.
and most muslims don't grow up with pork so when they taste it, they jsut don't like it. so its not really becasue those particular people are being anymore more faithful. its just easier not to sin that way.
personally..i'm a muslim, who doesn't like pork. i've tasted it on accident many times..you americans sure do like your pork in everything. and i've spit it out, tastes too salty to me. so its a culture thing as well. ultimately religion is a personal thing. and everyone chooses and picks what they want from it. unless your god, no has the right make judgements of young muslims anywhere. or anyone else of any other faith for that matter.

Hey, pork is something that your system needs to build up a tolerance to. So if u never ate pork before, it can make u ill. I grew up as a Muslim and never ate pork. Now, if I eat any food that has pork in it I have to go to the ER. Maybe that is why Muslims especially take heed to staying away from pork.

It's not that hard to not eat pork if you have never done it. It also makes them stand out as special if they can't eat pork. At a group function, everybody know person x can't eat pork. It's kind of like the teenager that suddenly decides to become a vegetarian then gives it up after she has to cook for herself.

It has nothing to do with just young muslims. People from all the religions tends to follow the same routine. Forbidding some sins stricktly and doing other even major ones as you specified.

Probably because they are not tempted to eat pork like they are to engage in those other sins. Like you said, they have other alternatives. Plus, there is something about eating pig meat that somehow seems worse to people than those other sins. Just like homosexuality seems worse to many people than adultery and fornication.

What makes you think we all do these things?? Every Muslim i know does not drink, gamble,is faithful, and follow Islam..Even the Imam tells you not to do these things..you are sadly misguided... All things in our life are important to follow.. a sin is a sin--big or small-- its wrong..
