Its Friday night, you are drunk and you've been caught acting like a knob. Do you take an £80 fine and a criminal record, or agree to spend an hour on Sunday afternoon in the Town Centres Public stocks having soggy tomatoes thrown at you. Would this prevent disorder?

Dunno but it would be something fun for the rest of us to do on a Sunday.

I think public humiliation might have worked at one time, however, today I think a public flogging would be more effective. After 27 years in corrections, I have learned what a bunch of whining babies convicts are. There isn't much one can say to humiliate them but any little physical pain they have to endure makes then wail like little children. Its sickening to behold. They get a little sniffle or headache and have to have medication immediately. I volunteered to go to caining school at my own expense. I would like to hold cainings on the courthouse steps and show it via closed circuit TV in the jails and prisons instead of letting them watch MTV all day long..

there shouldn't be a choice
Acting like a knob can have the tomatoes
Acting in a violent manner should have the bricks followed by the rope round the neck

Well, it's an interesting premise. Shame used to be a very effective tool. Now it might take shame AND pain.
