Is the training the same for truck and bus drivers?
I am 24 years old.
I have been driving for almost a year.
My car has automatic transmission.

there is a test you must take before getting your CDL. This will include a pre-trip inspection, and road test. It is a good idea to have access to the type of vehicle you intend to operate, as you will be required to pull some pretty tricky maneuvers on the road test. Secretary of State has a booklet you can study for the written, as well as, what to expect on the road test also there is a
pre-trip guide in the back of the book. A lot of people don't realize this but, you can actually use this guide on the actual test! Good luck to you.

If you want a class A CDL, to be an over-the-road truck driver, car driving experience doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Knowing how to shift a manual transmission would be useful, though. Although, many big rigs require double clutching to shift which is different from shifting in a car, but still, knowing the concept of shifting gears is useful. You've been driving for a year, so I assume you have a license to operate a car, so you know the rules of the road. There is a lot to learn to be a truck driver. I've had a class A CDL for about 13 years now. I don't drive for a living anymore, but I do keep up my CDL. It's too much hassle to go through all the testing to get it again. Besides a driving test, you have to take several multiple choice exams on the rules of the road, air brakes, safety inspections, hazardous materials, etc. If you want a passenger endorsement for driving a bus, that's another test, although you wouldn't need a hazmat test, then. Go to your nearest driver testing facility. They will have all the info that you need.

even if you have been driving a car for 20 years, stepping into a truck is a brand new experience. There are places out there that will train you to drive a truck and also help you get a CDL.

I've been driving 25years and I would say find a job as a certified wastewater treament plant operator. My cdl provided me with nice things Home, Cars ,etc.
The problem is 55, 65,70 or more hours that is required to mke a weekly paycheck doesn't give you time to expierience any of your life. Find something that will give you an occupation and a life too.

You looking for a Class A or Class B license? The training is different for straight trucks because you also have to learn the preflight for trailers for your A, not to mention your OTR skills test.
Plus, drug and alcohol testing is required for CDL holders. If you like to party, this may not be a wise career choice.

Training is training. They will train you to drive a truck or a bus. Don't worry about your experience with a car because it's so different in a big rig.
