They are definitely worth the money. The cheaper ones don't work nearly as well as the expensive ones, to a notable degree. As to where to find them, I would suggest a beauty supply store.

NO way don't get a cheap one...that's the worst thing for your hair. Go to Sally's they have really good flat irons there, I use Chi it heats up in about 30 sec. and straightens so easily. Also, don't forget to use a hair product, like a heat damage control. I use aveda smoothing fluid, light elements. It works wonderfully, if you do use it only use a few drops I have long hair and I use 4 small drops. But you can find a heat damage control product anywhere.

since you have long hair I would sugest that you go to a beauty supply sote such as sally's, and buy a nice one. I know my mom bought a ceramic one from there for about $100.00 and its worth every penny. I bought like a $20.00 from walmart before just to see how they work, and I honestly thought that it was a waste of money- it takes about 30 or more minutes to heat up, and it doesn't work even half as well as the more expensive one does.
The more expensive ones heat up faster, hotter, and straighten your hair better. I would suggest buying a more expensive one

You definitely need a straightener that is ceramic or tourmaline. And yes, most of them are worth the money. If you buy a CHI, you get a lifetime warranty on it. What you would spend on ONE CHI, you would spend on 2 or 3 cheap irons that don't last as long.

have you considered trying to just use a straightening iron to make sure that's what you want before you go and spend a lot of money on a straightener. Also if you are going to spend money on a straightner go to Sallies Beauty Supply if you have one and they can assist you in finding the right one. In straighteners I do know brand does matter. I used to work in a Salon.

GHD - the only way too go. They cost the earth but are worth every penny as they protect your hair. The cheap ones only do damage to your hair. Plus you'll have them for a life time. And you can do so much with them, you can strighten, curl, flick whatever you like...
