My scalp gives off small, clear looking crystals. They could be compared to "Sugar in the raw" ( a larger type of sugar crystals), but they are clear. These make my scalp itch continuously. I went to my doctor, and he perscribed selenium sulfide (2.5%), but the only affect this had on me was to give me what looked like very thin flakes. What condition could I have? Any advice will be really appreciated...

You are suffering a skin condition called "lichen planus" a form of psoriasis. This a nervous condition and it evolves to worse the more nervous you are about it.
What you need to do:
1-for an entire week, you only wash your hair with MINERAL WATER from the bottles (not containing Chlorine and pesticides)
2-At the same time you put yourself on a medicine tablets called "atarax" 5 mgs to be taken every other evening for a max duration of one month.
3-After the first week on MINERAL WATER, you use exactly and only 3ml (half a teaspoonful) of neutral shampoo any brand for normal hair to wash your hair with every 2 days.
4-You meanwhile need a scalp cream with cortisone like "dermovate". you apply "dermovate" with the finger tips very sparingly all over by rubbing gently into the scalp. Do not use more than over 3 weeks
It will improve up to 90% during the first 15 days, and you will end up by forgetting it.
You will have to maintain the shampoo very light and not wash your hair more than once every 3 days.
What you suffer from is a mixture of allergy, and a weakness in the immune system. You are a very nervous and introvert person.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common, inflammatory skin condition that causes flaky, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas such as the scalp or inside the ear. It can occur with or without reddened skin.
Seborrheic dermatitis can occur on many different body areas. Typically it forms where the skin is oily or greasy. Commonly affected areas include the scalp, eyebrows, eyelids, creases of the nose, lips, behind the ears, in the external ear, and along skin folds on the middle of the body...Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic (life-long) condition that can be controlled with treatment. It often has extended inactive periods followed by flare-ups....try this put baby oil on your scalp massage it in leave it on 30 min use head and shoulders shampoo...do that every time you shampoo untill it starts clearing up....

Are you using a combination shampoo and conditioner? This site says that it could be the crystals in the combination products. Try straight shampoo and a straight conditioner and see if it helps. Maybe they have another answer if you are already currently doing this. They also suggested Tgel shampoo and conditrioners.
Good luck!
