i just got a grill too and i LOVE it. It cooks the food faster and I think it tastes much better, besides, if you cook it in the pan, all the grease just sits there. Its not hard to learn to use. It cooks a lot faster. I learned by reading the manual that came with it. Then i threw some seasoned filet minion on there without having a clue what I was doing. well, somehow they turned out REALLY good, like the ones you get at a restuarant and pay $20.00 for.

Main reason not to cook on top of the stove is because of the mess you'll have to clean up after every meal. Electric stoves have burner rings, which would make cooking difficult, gas stoves have gas fire rings, which would also be difficult. If you cooked on an old fashioned wood stove you would risk having grease and stuff dribble down into the fire box and winding up with a fire on the top of your stove. Or is that what you meant by cook on a stove?
Are you talking about a barbecue grill? Because that's a whole different thing. With the BBQ, there's the ambiance of cooking outside (and it's traditionally the guys who cook the meat) plus you can get special kinds of BBQ wood, like mesquite, that imparts a very special flavour to the grilled meat.
The whole secret to grilling stuff on a BBQ is to sear it, then cook it slowly. Most people wind up with blackened lumps of charcoal when they start cooking on a grill, because they have the heat 'way too high.
There are some very good books on BBQ cooking, and it's worth a read to pick up some special techniques that will make your grill dinners a standout.

I love the grill , your food cooks faster on the outside locking in juices of meats, you can grill almost anything, wrap veggies in aluminum foil and add butter and a little salt and let it sit there while you cook your meat, you can heat your bread the same way, you dont have the heat inside your house and be careful lighting if its a gas grill.

How to Grill Chicken
The challenge in grilling chicken is to cook it long enough so that the inside of the chicken is done without the outside being charred. Allow about 1/2 pound of chicken (bone in) per serving.

Ingredients:
1 chicken
Oil or nonstick spray
Salt and pepper
Barbecue sauce - optional

Steps:
1. Buy chicken parts or cut up a whole chicken. Remove skin and fat, if desired, then rinse chicken and pat dry with paper towels.

2. Prepare a bed of medium-hot coals in a charcoal grill, or heat a gas grill to medium-hot. Coat the grill rack with oil or nonstick spray for easier cleanup later.

3. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Place chicken parts on grill rack.

4. Cook chicken for about 30 to 45 minutes. Turn chicken every 10 minutes for even cooking.

5. Baste with barbecue sauce only in the last 10 minutes of cooking.

6. Check for doneness by cutting into the middle of a piece of chicken. The juices should run clear when you cut into the thickest part of the piece.

7. Serve immediately or cool, chill and serve cold.

Tips:
Don't apply barbecue sauce until the last 10 minutes of cooking. Most sauces have a high sugar content and will burn if cooked too long.

Partially cooking chicken in the microwave (about 8 to 10 minutes on high) and then putting it on the grill to finish cooking saves time.

Chicken fat can drip onto coals and cause flare-ups, so you might want to consider cooking over indirect heat. Use a covered grill and place a foil drip pan under chicken, with coals pushed to the sides of the grill. The chicken will take about the same length of time to cook.

Marinades boost flavor in grilled food. Marinate the chicken for an hour or up to 24 hours, refrigerated. Try these combinations: lime juice, cilantro and onion; yogurt, cumin, coriander, cayenne and cilantro; lemon juice, garlic and olive oil; or soy sauce, garlic and ginger.

Food taste better off the grill. Besides, it doesn't need additives (like butter etc.) in order to cook it thoroughly.

grilled food just tastes so much yummier than what you can get out of a pan. plus grill marks makes the food look more like restaurant quality--and we eat with our eyes first!

i'm not so good with the grill either, i do the prep work and leave the fire for others. good luck with it though.

for steaks, it's hard to beat cooking on a grill. With other meats you can close the lid and smoke 'em too.
