"Ask a college student to describe the Catholic Church and his answer might be: "corruption." But it should be "civilization." No institution has done more to shape Western civilization than the Church. This book explains why modern science was born in the Church, how the Church invented the university, the truth about the Galileo affair and more." -HOW THE CATHOLIC CHURCH BUILT WESTERN CIVILIZATION by Thomas E. Woods, Jr.

Good luck fellow Catholic. Most Protestants won't even accept that their church broke off ours. Or that their Bible came after and from ours.

Really? Indo-persian religion was enormously influential on western civilization, and christianity. Greece was the cradle of western civilization. Rome built it's structures. Rome reached it's height during the pegan stoic emperor Hadrian's reign. It began to decline and fall when it founded the catholic church. Actually, there's a name for the Catholic period, The Dark Ages. Civilization didn't start developing again until the Renaissance when Scientists, Artists, and thinkers finally began challenging the church.

There's no doubt of the importance and influence of the Catholic Church to western civilization, but build it? That's absurd.

The Catholic Church indirectly built Western civilization by serving as a negative example to those liberal intellectuals that would be responsible for ALL advancement during the dark and evil reign of the Holy Roman empire. Without the stupid, stifling theories of the Papists, would Galileo have questioned? That's just one example. As an analogy, would medical science advance as far or as fast without diseases like cancer that it had to cure? Of course not, there would have been no need.
