This "natural" birth control method is never reliable. Use other protection or go build homes for the homeless instead. Also, I have a hunch that having sex during a woman's monthly menstrual period may lead to endometriosis, a painful condition in which uteral cells get outside of the uterus and continue to live and swell in cycles like cells inside the uterus.

Unless she's got a disease and you don't use a condom, it's never safe! If you want to know if it's possible to get pregnant in the few days before or after her cycle--YES IT IS! Some women don't ovulate for as few as a few days after her cycle to as long as a week or more. If you are concerned about an unplanned pregnancy, use a combination of a condom, spermicide and encourage her to use some form of birth control. People who don't use some form of birth control or rely on this "method" of birth control have a name: PARENTS

sex can be had anytime before, during, and after menstruation without causing side effects. However, if you're asking about whether or not pregnancy is an issue, there is no time frame that guarantees "safe" sex. Fertilization can happen any time someone has unprotected intercourse.

It really depends on when you ovulate so the week before and the week after are danger zones. But if you do not want to have children right now then birth control or abstinence is the best solution.

that's a ridicululous question. A woman can have sex during her period. Its just a bit messy, that's all.

Its never safe....always use protection. Just because you had a period, does not guarantee that you ovulated, or that you wont again.And...there are always diseases to think about.

Here's a page full of birth control methods, including rhythm. Note that you're not "safe", just lowering your chances of pregnancy when you use rhythm.
