OK, You are getting tired of people running down pit bulls. I am getting tired of people telling me that they are so wonderful and that if there are any problems that it is owner.
My own pit bull was absolutely the 'sweetest dog in the world', until he attacked and nearly killed my 3 year old daughter. (unprovoked)
My friend and neighbor's pit bull attacked her and mauled her leg, just because she told him "No, go lay down" when he was begging at the table.
My friend's pit bull attacked him while he was feeding him.
I work at a boarding/day care kennel. We have only 3 pit bull clients. None of them can be allowed to play with the other dogs, as they are always looking for a fight. These dogs are owned by the outstanding citizens of our town, who care enough to put them in day care while they work.
ALL of these were responsible owners, with well trained "sweet" pit bulls.
My friends run a pit bull rescue and show UKC pit bull's and poodles. They are also the local obedience trail instructoors and she is a UKC American Pit Bull judge...They came home from a trip to the grocer's to find 3 poodles dead, and 1 wounded. The pit bulls were all bloody and happy.
Yes, many pit bulls are and stay wonderful pets. But many of them do not... I will never trust another.
Just look at the asker's questions for a couple of days. So many are about a dog aggressive pit bull, and how to make them not kill the other dogs, or tear the fence down trying to get at people and dogs, etc

If you train a pitbull to be nice when it's born then it's nice, but I think most of the pitbulls are dangerous because they seem dangerous and they bark a lot in a mean way, they also get into fights with other kind of dogs

The saying goes: "there are no bad dogs, only bad dog owners". I don't fully agree with this. As long as there is a market for bad, mean, aggressive dogs; bad people will breed for these traits and they will produce bad puppies that will grow to be dangerous adult dogs. I've met some very bad dogs that weren't trained to be bad, nor were their owners lacking in training skills.
I'm glad to hear that your pitbull is a nice dog. He was obviously bred by somebody who showed some responsibility in this matter.

People say that pit bulls are only violent if raised that way, but this is not true. All pit bulls may not have a violent instinct but most do, because they have been bred as fighting dogs for a long time. Even when they are not raised for a specific purpose, specialized dog breeds tend to have the urge to do what their ancestors were bred to do, for instance; sled dogs pull, terriers dig, tracking dogs track, hunting dogs hunt, guard dogs are protective. Why some people think you can take out in one generation what has been bred into a dog is beyond me.

Pitbulls probably are no more dangerous than other strong breeds but I feel the owners are to blame for making them vicious. However, once they have been made vicious there probably isn't much to do with them except to euthanize them which is so sad. Recently a pitbull in my area actually jumped a fence and killed a woman who was only working in her garden.

It isn't always the dog itself but sometimes the owner of the dog and how the dog itself is brought up! Such as environment, play-time, discipline etc..... But on the other hand, I think it also depends on the dogs genetic make-up. For example, we have hunting dogs, fighting dogs, howling dogs and these dogs can't help what they do because it is bred into them, if you know what I mean? But regarding children and dogs, if a dog ever bites a child HAVE IT PUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. Of course this is not always the dogs fault but hey if you leave your child unattended with an unpredictable dog (even the family dog), you're an idiot in my book. All dogs have their good days and bad days too and all dogs are capable of attacking.

I love pit bulls, I own one his name is Vlad. Bad owners, training and breeding can make this breed very dangerous. When you go to get a pit bulls don't buy one for 200 dollars from the guy in the paper. Get your pit from a breeder that knows his dogs blood lines and can prove it. I have come to find badly breed dogs of any breed can be subject to something called rage syndrome. This is where one minute you have a kind loving dog and the next you have a monster ready to tear into you.

Owners of dogs are dangerous. Not the dog. It's a shame that bad breeders make bad dogs, and that is the reputation they get. Then, some clown gets a Rott or Bull Terrier and they become bad to da bone!

Any kind of dog is dangerous if you make it that way. I have seen many very docile pit bulls, my brother has two that are full grown and about as gentle as they come, besides, Pete on The Little Rascals "Our Gang" was a Pit Bull.
