Not only dropping the "bomb" over japan, but also fire bombings of Japan, and the carpet bombings of Germany. It was common knowldegde civilians would die in all of those raids, but they were sent and dropped on those countries.

Would the press of today splatter the TV with images of dead civilians or would they talk about how the bombings will help end the war and bring victory for our country?

whoa there hard charger, i didnt say anything about any current events. Dont hijack my question about something else. I am just wondering, if WW2 happened today, and the firebombings or the carpet bombings or the nukes were flying, how would the press react.

DONT think about current events.

The press and the losers of today would villify the actions of our leaders from the past. The question these leaders from the past asked themselves was "will our killing of enemy civilians end the war quicker, and save the lives of people on our side?"
If the answer is yes, then they need to do what is neccessary, end of debate.
Why do so many Democratic and Liberal folks of today, forget that some of the best, and supposedly "cruel" presidents of the early to mid 20th century were DEMOCRATS!
FDR (authourized fire bombing of Dresden and Tokyo), Truman (authourized nuke drops on Japan and Korean War), and Kennedy (Bay Of Pigs Invasion, Vietnam buildup) and also asked
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".
It seems that today, people just expect things to be done for them. They're lazy at best. Luckily there is a small but dedicated group of folks that will defend this country, bar none.
The same people that give the other citizens the right to protest all the time. Too bad these idiots think the Constitution lets them do anything they want. Shameful!

It was Vietnam that set us on the wrong path...before that, Americans weren't as exposed to the ugliness of war. If WWII had come after Vietnam, they would have reacted the same way, and so would a lot of other people. It would have been, "Holy crap! 250,000 killed today! This war needs to be over, now!" Thank the hippies for that. I think you have a good point.

The journalists (I use the term loosely) today would be unable to function in that environment. They need the anarchy of the press to hide their true activist intentions.

They would make it look like the Apocalypse, they're doing that already with this small war, so I guess they would make it look like the Apocalypse x 10.

WWII was not about two kidnapped soldiers. The Israeli actions are disproportionate.
