For a proper answer to your question I would need to know if your looking for new,used or a fixer upper. I work with salvage yards and police auctions and I see suv's go for 400-650 all the time at police auctions, but you take the chance wether or not they run,but if your a little mechanically gifted, you can pick a good one out!!

And how about some cheap gas to go with it , eh? Just joshin ya!! If you find an SUV "cheap" it will probably have alot of miles or have come from a flood and been cleaned up. Or maybe have a salveged title. Good luck!
