I took a valium because I was nervous before an interview. I got the job, and I have to take a drug test in 2 days... a total of 3 days after I took the valium. Will this cause me to fail a drug test for employment, or are they just looking for pot etc?

I do have a prescription but I am afraid that if my future employer finds out that I have to take valium sometimes, I will not get the job

This will not cause you to fail because they are looking for illegal substances, however it WILL show up in your test results, and you may be required to show proof of a prescription for the medication in your name.
AS for kinipoo's answer, I don't know where you live, but in NY state it is illegal to ask a person what medications they are taking prior to a drug test, it violates the persons privacy.

Typically they are looking for just pot. After 3 days though, the valium should be out of your system. Go get a bottle of cranberry juice mix it 60/40 with water and flush out your system just to be safe. Take the test tomorrow or whatever.

Valium won't show up at all in a pre-employment drug screen, and even if it did, it's not an illegal drug. Besides, your medical records are protected by law, so you can tell them you have a prescription for it and they have to take your word for it. You'll be fine.

I don't know about the time frame, but if you've got a prescription for the valium then take it with you when you take the drug test.

They look for weed and opiates, from what I understand. Anyway, if they find something wrong, they will call you (meaning the lab that has done the test). You simply tell them what you told us. Hopefully you obtained the drug from a doc so you can tell them who prescribed it. Good luck and try not to make yourself sick stressing out. (yeah, I know that's easy to say, but hard to do)
Btw, I'm pretty sure valium passes out of your system within the amount of time you are talking about anyway.

If valium is a medication that's been legitimately prescribed by your doctor, then I wouldn't worry.
Employers are more focused on the ILLEGAL stuff, like pot and hardcore drugs.

When you go to the clinic & fill out the forms, be sure to list the drugs that you have taken in the previous days. Honesty and legitimate drugs won't keep you from not being hired.
They're looking for pot, coke, all the illegal substances but the other drugs can & do show up in your system & print out on the results. Be sure to tell them what you took.

I'm pretty sure they just look for illegal drugs. They typically ask if you are on any subscription meds when you take the test-- if you were asked, I hope you told them you were prescribed valium. I think they just ask, though, because some perscription drugs will trigger a false positive for illegal substances. Let's hope valium isn't one of them!

I think pot stays in the system for about two weeks, after one joint, that is. Chronic users should stay away from all drugs for at least a month before drug tests. You may be hanging on a wire.

They will ask you before the test if you are on any medication or if you have taken any cough medicine in the last 24 hours. Tell them you took some volume. It will be OK. When/if it shows up you can tell your interviewer in the last interview why it was there if they question you.
