I will be traveling to China this week for a vacation and I would like to know, from anyone who has been to China for a vacation what is to be expected at Chinese customs? Are the customs agents very strict or is it relatively easy to pass through? Please, serious answers only. I don't have the time or patience for irrelevant answers.

I usually fly to Shanghai (done Beijing once and it was pretty much the same). Show them your passport and VISA (be sure you have a valid visa-- probably you will have a tourist visa) (for obtaining that I suggest using a visa service and not going in person to the consulate). Basically just wait in line they look at the entry form you filled in (you will be needing your address in China to put on the form) and they dont ever talk to me just look at the paper work and wave their hand. I actually have felt them to be a bit rude when passing you through as they dont speak. Then you will collect your baggage and exit. They will check your tags on the bag to be sure they match the ones claim ones you have so keep these handy. it is easy to get through customs.

I went to China last year with school and the customs process was pretty easy. Fill out the card, show them your passport, get a stamp, and go on your way.
Keep it mind, if you are doing any inter-China flying or on the way home even, that they are very thorough when checking your bags. They'll open unopened cans of soda, make you unwrap any presents you have gift wrapped things like that.
Good luck, I had a lot of fun.

Shiningami Gurl has nailed it! I desire to characteristic: One ought to keep in mind that chinese language do no longer oftentimes view a signed contract with the aid of fact the suited end of a company deal; they have a tendency to look at it as form of an 'historic marker" representing the preliminary end of the corporate negotiations which then makes it possible for action to happen, and that the contract is often situation to further negotiation/revisions as time is going on.

It is not that hard to pass through. Make sure your visa (in pasport, you probably got it through the trip you are going with) is all in order, fill out a form, and go. They sometimes check your bags, sometimes not. I had some DVD's once that they looked at to make sure that I did not have anything that was damaging to the governments image. I actually find it easier to go through that customs then the american ones.

As long as you don't bring anything forbidden into China you won't have problems, as in every country.
I came into China several times and was never controlled, so don't worry
