Yeah, it's called methadone. It's a prescription from a doctor. It gives a similar effect as heroine, but without the pleasurable aspect, so it is less addicting. It is to wean a person off heroin, which can be very unpleasant or even deadly depending on how much one was using.

my dad is a recovering heroin addict, when he gets sick from not having it he would go to the hospital for detox, also xanax helps, he is on a methadone program not and doing well u should try that. I have watched him on heroin my whole life almost, and it does not get better, he is now 52 years old starting everything over. Please think about kicking that crap

The WILL to stop. Using methadone will only satisfy your withdrawal symptoms for a while until you get hooked to the methadone itself and your doses will just keep getting higher and higher and then on top of the methadone you will start mixing other drugs such as ativan and Valium to your methadone cocktail just to feel better.
