I know that cats are carnivores, so why do they eat grass? Doesn't that make them omnivores (eating plants + meat)?

no, that doesnt count as omnivores. its becuz they r naturally attracted 2 grasses (ie catnip), cuz it maks them "high". they eat it for pleasure, not for means of survival (lik how they eat meat),

ps, great question!

Dogs and cats eat grass because they are sick is a partial truism. Dogs and cats will often eat grass if they have indigestion. The grass causes them to vomit and then they feel better. But there are animals that eat grass out of habit and many pets are smart enough to eat grass to get the taste of something bad out of their mouths, using the grass as a mouthwash of sorts!

I was reading a book on cats and their behavior. They eat grass because they like to vomit. Yeah I was disgusted about it too. They sell cat grass at stores but I have seen that walmart's cat grass is the cheapest. It is with the cat stuff.

They eat mostly meat and not enough grass to be considered an omnivore. They eat grass when they are constipated.

Cats eat grass to help them digest thier food. Also it settles their stomachs if they ate something that didnt agree with them.Grass also helps them get rid of hair balls>cats should always have access to grass.Indoor cats should be given a tub of grass(you grow it for them). It is an impotant part of their diet.

No because they are not eating grass to sustain any body function. They are true carnivores.Cats are more carnivorous than dogs even and believe you me any vegetarian cat is not getting what it needs nutritionally and they also need Taurine for their heart. You cannot nor should you change how Mother Nature works.

Eating grass helps tummy aches with cats and dogs. Are you giving your cat hair ball medicine? This will help reduce the need for grazing.

Best of luck!

When a cat eats grass, it's because she's not feeling well and wants to throw up to rid her stomach of its contents. Eating grass helps cats and dogs vomit. They're not eating it because it tastes good. Yuk.

The grass helps remove parasites from their digestive tract.

not usually a problem with domestic cats, but wild cats still have this behavior and your kitty is still a little wild inside!

Think of it as kitty medicine, they don't actually derive nutrition from it so they are still carnivores.

My cat ate grass, and I just thought she liked it.

We have all seen cats eat grass...but why do they do it? Listed below are some suggestions that have been put forward over the years:
Cats use grass as a laxative to enable them to pass hairballs lodged in their intestines.
Cats eat grass to make them vomit up hairballs.
Cats eat grass because they are feeling sick and this makes them vomit, getting rid of poisons.
Cats eat grass to relieve inflammation of their throats.
Cats eat grass to relieve stomach ache.
Cats eat grass to add roughage to their diets.

fiber, roughage, cleaning their teeth (floss),tastes good, vits and minerals,it maybe be nip.
My cat likes bamboo very much. I thought it was bad for him so I researched and I got the answers above. I found out that wildcats in asia love to eat bamboo and it is not bad for them.I bet grass is the same.
Of course my cat is also addicted to nip and acts like a spaz.
