First a couple questions for you.what is she eating? is she under any unusual stress or new circumstances? ask her... the answer may not be obvious or something you are aware of.
Some natural solutions....warm water w/ a little lemon juice. massage her belly ,gentle as not to hurt the tender spots, though firm enough to move something in there... tender spots indicate where matter or gass is stuck. massage in circles in a clockwise direction as you face her from just above her belly button to just above her pubic bone...stroke should be like kneading bread pushing matter and air clock wise... if she is to tender try a genreal back massage esp mid and low back , even include hips and glute muscles...or lay one hand under her mid back and the other hand over her belly... she needs to relax and this could help. try getting her to eat some roasted beet root and baked sweet potatoe ... about 1/4 beet for hersize and a 1/4 cup of the mashed. avoid banana grapefruit wheat dairy sugar . chamomile tea or the water from a boiled whole grain like short grain brown rice will calm her nervous system and help her body's natural proccess to take over again. also has she had enough water? could be as simple as dehydration. try putting your hand on her belly where it hurts and ask her to take a deeeeeeep breath fill her belly with the breath....if she responds have her do it as long as she is willing... maybe tell her a long story get her to relax and keep her breathing into the belly the whole time.
I would avoid using harsh chemichal methods on such a young sensitive body...it could possibly shock her system and make things worse or end up creating such instant results that it could be really painful and violent feeling to her. little bodies are still so close to thier natural balance that they still respond well to natural solutions... also you must reflect to her that everything will be fine and that she will poo soon... seeing your calm confidence will make a world of difference... and seeing you get worked up over it will scare her. some yoga moves that could help her .... squating, lying on her back and hugging her knees to her chest, lying on her back bring both knees to one side of body then to the other.... deep breathing in every position...hold each one for a 5-10 breath count. I can't stress enough how much your calmness will support her rather than you getting spun out by her expressions of sufferring... not that I know what is going on over there but just thought I'd give you a handfull of things to work with all or some will combine to the effect you need. give it some time... when she is ready to "go" don't let her push and strain for that could irritate, swell and weaken her sphincter muscle wich would add to the problem... just get her to relax and breath... finding a way for her to be able to relax while in a squatting position over the toilet could be a golden key! good luck to you both... a natural proccess that will surely happen ... hopefully sooner than later... Michelle

First off mind the suppositories as some of them have harmful things that can lead to brain damages and other serious side effects that the labels and a lot of doctors wont tell you.

Second, you can give her apple juice. If all else fails, this has worked with my kids when they have that problem, get some clear Kayro Syrup. Usually in the same aisle as pancake syrup at your grocery store. Stir a teaspoon of the Kayro in an 8 oz. drink. Do this for no more than 24-48 hours. It should work. Again it has for my little ones. Good luck, I hope she feels better soon.

Try castor oil or prune juice. The prune juice worked for me when nothing else would. In fact, you might want to mix the castor oil in with the prune juice.
Medicines for treating children with constipation: "Most of these medicines for constipation are available in the pharmacy over the counter and do not require a prescription. They include Metamucil, Milk of magnesia, Citrucel, or mineral oil.
Unlike laxatives in adults, they are generally not considered to be habit forming. You should use them once or twice a day and work up on the dose until your child is having a soft BM each day. If you child starts to have diarrhea, then you are giving too much and you should cut back on the dose. See the table below for dosing information for treatment of children with constipation.
Senokot is also often commonly used in children, but it is actually a stimulant laxative and not a stool softener, so you may not want to use it for long periods of time.
A newer medicine, Miralax, is available only by prescription to treat constipation, but is very effective."

Call your child's doctor. Some of the advice people are giving you here is incorrect and dangerous. DO NOT listen to the person who told you to give your child Benadryl. And bananas are binding and will only make the constipation worse.
Here are some things that can help. Plenty of fluids, like water or juice. Prune juice works great and doesn't taste as bad as it looks. Fruits like peaches, plums, or pears can help alot.
If she is severely constipated you should talk to the doctor about an enema or other remedy. Good luck.

"Califig" is an extract of figs that has always seemed to do the trick when my daughers suffered from constipation. While it is good for getting things moving, Lactulose is quite effective at making sure everything is a bit softer when it does come out, if it is taken over a few days when they are suffering from ongoin constipation.
P.S. I am in the UK but I am sure these or equavalent products are available elsewhere.

I don't know how drinking benadryl would help with constipation, seeing how that's an allergy medicine and all. o.O
make sure she has lots of water or juice (I hear prune juice is good for constipation) and fiber. have you tried giving her a stool softener or laxative? poor thing, I feel bad for her.

Make sure she gets plenty of fluids. Apple juice is good, it has a mild laxative effect. Don't feed her bananas, rice, cheese or apple sauce. These all have a "binding" effect. If she does not move her bowels soon, call her doctor.

Call your doc and see what he/she suggests. In the meantime, try mineral oil. Just like 2 teaspoons.
