I have a mini daschund and she is very big on the whole jumping thing, not just to strangers! I walk in the door and she's all over me! The First thing you have to do is teach him what no means. you don't have to yell but make your tone of voice deeper and more mean so he can tell the difference when you are playing or not. Then teach your dog his name say it every time and several times when you talk to him, though it may be weird. Eventually he will know when you are talking to him either by hearing his name or if you are using the tone of voice you talk to him in( not the mean one). When he knows what no and his name are then any time he tries to jump on strangers, or YOU, say "NO ________ down". If he does not get down initially then just tell him again with a little more tone and put him down yourself. Eventually all you will have to say is "Down" and he will know what you want him to do. But be consistent, don't let him jump on you and then yell at him when he jumps on others he might not know the difference and you don't want to confuse him. If he is a hyper dog, like mine, then it might take awhile before he catches on. Hope every thing works out!

don't taser him. Do you have any friends your dog hasn't ever met before? If so have one of them come over and ring the front door, when the dog comes running to jump on them, have the "stranger" knee the dog in the stomach really hard right when they jump. It doesn't hurt them, it just knocks the wind out of them, and it gets the point across really well. I doubt your dog will jump on a stranger again.

When anyone approaches your dog have him sit and give him a treat right away, soon he will automatically sit when anyone approaches and you can then wean him off the treats just giving verbal and touch praise.

Just like ANY OTHER BAD BEHAVIOR!!! Put on choke/slip/chain collar & lead & *POP* him !!!
Those dogs are VERY tough & can be headstrong! You CAN'T "hurt" him & NEED to get through to him!!
DON'T BE A SISSY!! He'll take advantage.Grow a spine & take charge.
