Urban myth. Old wives' tale. NOT TRUE.
You don't need to drink 8 glasses (2 liters) of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day. Drink when you're thirsty. Period!

This is what the Dr told me. a gallon of water a day to flush the system and but it is okay to substitute crystal like diet cokes, etc but not a lot. believe it or not some of us takes Rx's that may build up in our systems if we don't keep them flushed out will actually cause us problems in the long run.

You are supposed to drink at least 48 - 64 oz of water a day. More if you are sweating or trying to lose weight. It should be half of your body weight in oz. But when I was pregnant they told my not to drink to much at one time because it can cause your body temprature to cool and can cause problems. So if your pregnant ...ask your doctor.

studies show that it should be done, however, if the person has a job under the sun----farm hand, crop harvesting or has a job that is very strenuous---construction the amount can be increased. Although, studies also found that you can drink other fluids to help the body to function properly. Still, water helps your organs and keeps your skin smooth and hydrated

i recently took a CPR and First Aid class and when we were discussing heat stroke and that kind of stuff, our teacher told us that the whole 8 8oz glasses of water a day isn't really accurate. she told us that it is based on your own weight. she used this example: if you 180 lbs., you divide that by 2, so 90, this is how much water you should have in a day, 9 10oz glasses or 90oz. hope that is helpful, it was for me!
